A Word From Our Compassionate Sponsor
Why I support MSP:
Honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Like many people, I had no idea how common domestic violence is in our country and especially in our own communities. I remember feeling helpless when I would hear of such stories in the news. But then a dear friend, who is a survivor of domestic violence, introduced me to this incredible organization right here in Washington DC called My Sister’s Place I was immediately touched by their powerful and important mission. And, I found a way to channel my feelings of helplessness into action. I have been an active and avid supporter of their efforts since.

My Sister’s Place seeks to shelter, support, and empower survivors of domestic violence, and their children, while also providing leadership and education to build a supportive community. Their task is great, but not impossible.

As a realtor and a neighbor in this community, I believe passionately that everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home. I am so grateful my friend found the shelter and support she needed at a critical time in her life. And I am proud to support the good work of My Sister’s Place. If you would like to support this incredible organization as a donor or volunteer, here's how

Thank you, Frank, for supporting Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Your inverstment in the community is much appreciated!

Incredible September Moments
Bike Drive
171 Smiles Worth!

The concept of the bike drive originated with volunteers from My Sister’s Place who noticed that bikes were on the wish list of many children as part of MSP’s holiday gift drive. Volunteers were able to connect My Sister’s Place with representatives from Target Ivy City who, in turn, engaged Pacific Cycle. Target and Pacific Cycle worked together for months to secure the inventory. From there, Target employees across the Washington DC region volunteered their time to assemble the bikes and prepare the equipment for distribution. Additionally, volunteers from the Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fraternal Order of Police and UPS delivered the bikes and equipment to local families. Are you smiling with us? Have a similar idea? Contact us.
Move In Program: The Makings of a Home

In the last month, MSP provided furniture for seven families through our Move In Program. As MSP moves clients from shelter to transitional housing, we realize most clients do not have the furnishings or other household items to make a home. We found that some clients will remain at shelter after they had secured transitional housing because they do not have a bed to sleep on. MSP’s Move-In Program started in January of 2020 and coordinates the donation of gently used furniture and other household items, along with coordinating a group of volunteers to move-in and decorate an apartment so that clients move into a fully furnished and equipped home, including linens, kitchen supplies and decorations. Clients are overwhelmed and incredibly grateful to see their new, fully furnished homes. Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers that help to make this possible!
Coat Drive: Show the Love
We love Fall. There is something special about this season. Kids are back to school, many of our clients are moving to their transitional-to-permanent housing and some have moved to independent living. For that we are grateful. MSP kids are growing and we would love YOUR HELP with our annual Coat Drive. Here is our wish list. Thank you!
