Vicente Guillen Wins $35,000 EMO Grand Prix with Evolene De Carles

For Immediate Release: March 30, 2025
Ocala, Florida
| | | |
The Ocala Spring Classic wrapped up its first of three weeks of competition at the Florida Horse Park today.
Vicente Guillen of Ocala, Florida, took the top two placings in the American Standard $35,000 Sidelines Grand Prix today, with the blue ribbon going to Evolene De Carles and second place to Rustica LS La Silla, both owned by Tranquility Farm. “I am very happy with both of their performances today,” said Guillen.
Eleven horse and rider teams advanced to the jump-off round with a time allowed set at 48 seconds.
Tracy Fenney of Ocala, Florida and MTM Farm’s MTM My Life Be Like were the first to go and set the new time to beat at 37.347 seconds.
Maddison Stephen, also of Ocala, aboard her own Yalambis Ikon, turned in a clear jump off round and, with their time of 34.245 seconds, took the lead and set the new time to beat.
William Simpson of Ocala and 5 Roosters’ Whoop De Doo, followed Stephen, but with four jump faults in a time of 41.203 seconds, earned ninth place.
Guillen and Tranquility Farm’s Evolene De Carles followed in the order, turning in a clear jump off round in a time of 36.720 seconds, and took the lead.

Guillen commented, “It was a nice course today, but it was raining on and off, so that made it a bit tricky. Evolene and I went after Tracy, and since Tracy is always very fast, I knew I had to be quick and take all the options. Evolene is very quick on the ground, so that helped, even though I added one stride in the first line of the jump-off to have a good roll back.”
Nigel Potts of Ocala, Florida, and CM Sporthorses, LLC’s Orlando Van Klapscheut followed in the jump-off order, but sixteen jump faults in a time of 35.773 seconds would see them finish in eleventh place.
Marylisa Leffler and Rolling Acres’ ZaZa Z followed in the order and posted a clear jump off round in 37.172 seconds.
Ben Taylor of Ocala, Florida, and his own Mescandro PS were up next. Eight jump faults in a time of 40.207 seconds earned them tenth place.
Next in the jump-off order was Tim Maddrix of Ocala, Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Waters’ For Jens Z. The pair turned in a clear round in a time of 38.612 seconds and placed seventh overall.
Guillen returned to the arena, this time in the irons of Tranquility Farm’s Rustica LS La Silla. The pair turned in a clear jump off round in a time of 36.952 seconds and settled into a second placing. “I had a good idea of what I wanted to do, and even though she’s small, she is naturally fast,” said Guillen.
Jenni McAllister of Ocala, Florida and Marlene Hart’s Simona VS followed and despite a clear jump off round, their time of 40.107 seconds earned them an eighth placing.
Fenney and Nina Koloseike’s MTM Can Talk to Me sat in the enviable last-to-go position. Despite turning in a clear jump off round, their time of 37.012 seconds earned them a third place overall and secured Guillen’s win with Evolene De Carles and second placing with Rustica LS La Silla.
Guillen added, “I really like this horse show. I always have it in mind after the winter season ends, as the Classic Company puts on a nice show for everyone.”

ZOOMING!
ZaZa Z and Marylisa Leffler
Win $7,500 Welcome Stake

Marylisa Leffler of Brookeville, Maryland, and Rolling Acres’ ZaZa Z won the $7,500 Ocala Spring Classic Welcome.
Only six would advance to a second round opportunity in the $7,500 Ocala Spring Classic Welcome.
Tim Maddrix of Ocala, Florida, and Mr. and Mrs.’ For Yens Z, were the first to go. Despite advancing to a second round, jump faults and time faults would see the pair earn a sixth place.
Ashley Worthington of Brookeville, Maryland, and her own Diadora also advanced to a second round, but four jump faults and time faults would see the pair finish in fourth overall.
Tracy Fenney of Ocala, Florida, and MTM Farm’s MTM My Life Be Like were up next. The pair advanced to a second round and earned the first fault-free round with a time of 34.062 seconds and took the lead. That lead was short-lived when they were followed by Leffler and ZaZa Z, who turned in a flawless second round in a time of 32.799 seconds.

“You had to be efficient with your time,” said Leffler. “I had a plan, and when I watched Tracy go ahead of me, she went around to get to the in and out. I stuck with my plan, which was to stay to the inside, and I think that contributed to the win.”
Fenney returned to the arena, this time in the irons of MTM Farm’s S & L Cesam. Four jump faults and time faults earned them a fifth place.
Jenni McAllister of Ocala, Florida, and Bertrand Legriffan’s Toulamba sat in the last-to-go position. Despite posting a clear second round, their time of 37,559 would earn them a third place and secure the win for Leffler and ZaZa Z, and a second place for Fenney and MTM My Life Be Like.
Marylisa Leffler and Rolling Acres have been in Ocala since December. “I keep a schedule with ZaZa so she never hates her job. I only have one ZaZa, and after today, she’s going to have a few weeks off back in Maryland. We’re glad we stayed to show here at the Ocala Spring Classic. I had some students who needed a few extra points for Devon. I’m happy to say they got them, and now we can head home,” she added.

Nigel Potts and Orlando Van Klapscheut
Win in the $5,000 Schneiders Saddlery
Open Jumper Classic

Nigel Potts of Reddick, Florida rode CM Sporthorses, LLC’s Orlando Van Klapscheut to the win in the $5,000 Schneiders Saddlery Open Jumper Classic on Saturday, besting a field of ten horse and rider teams.
Emily Chamberlin of Ocala, Florida, and her own Caesar Optimus, were the first to go in the class. After posting a clear first round and advancing to a second round opportunity, a heartbreak rail at the last fence earned them four faults with a time of 36.06 and a sixth placing.
Jenni McCallister of Ocala, Florida, and Marlene Hart’s Simona VS followed in the order and advanced to a second round where they went clear in a time of 35.631 seconds, and set the new time to beat.
Three rides later, Annabella Wyman of Washington, DC, and her own Carramar C, advanced to a second round where they posted a clear round in a time of 38.650 seconds, earning a fifth overall.

Potts and Orlando Van Klapscheut were the next to tackle the second round. The pair went fault-free in a time of 33.345 seconds and took the lead.
According to Potts, he’s been riding him for about a year and a half. “He’s jumped 1.50 m and is very experienced. The only reason I did this class was that I decided on Friday night to jump the Sunday Grand Prix, but I hadn’t done any schooling or prep throughout the week. I just wanted to treat it as a warm-up or prep for us, and since there was $5,000 in it, I figured, why not? We might just get a ribbon. It just went our way, and we happened to win it,” he said.
Holly Jacks of Hillsburgh, Ontario, Canada, and Julia Worden’s Magnolia AS followed as the next to advance to a second round. Their clear round in a time of 35.266 seconds earned them a second-place finish.
Chamberlin and her second mount, Kamilla Van De Notelaer, sat in the enviable last-to-go position. The pair posted a clear second round in a time of 38.259 seconds, which earned them a fourth place and secured the win for Potts and Orlando Van Klapscheut. Jacks and Magnolia AS finished in second place, and McCalister and Simona VS earned third place. Chamberlin also placed seventh with her own Murdock, and Jacks finished in eighth place with Donna Van Beck’s Josephine.
Heather Kuiper of Indianapolis, Indiana, rode Wind Haven Farm’s Bianca Du Rouet to a ninth placing, and Emily Jane Chmela of Savanah, Georgia, finished in tenth place with her own Corinthian.

High Tide Champion
Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter

Congratulations to High Tide, owned by Patience Chesnutt and ridden by Kristina Eisaman, on winning the Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter Championship.
According to Eisaman, she used to ride with Lauren Schweppe when she competed in the ponies. “I stopped showing once I went to high school. I’m now in vet school and happened to be at a clinical rotation at WEC. I was on the grounds and passed by Lauren Schweppe. I had not seen her in maybe fifteen years. We reconnected, and she asked me if I wanted to hack a horse; she had one for me to ride. I rode him around and had so much fun. She leased him to me for the week, and I showed him in the 2’6” at WEC. Then, it just happened to be that I had this past weekend off, and she told me she would be at the Florida Horse Park. So, I got to show him again, and this time at 3’. I’m so busy with vet school that I don’t have a lot of time. It’s amazing how this all worked out,” she said.

The Perfect Products Adult Amateur Hunter Reserve Championship was awarded to Dream Catcher, owned and ridden by Sally Culhane. Culhane commented, "I always enjoy competing at the Florida Horse Park. The show is run well and has good course designs."
