Owning the disability narrative is critical if we are to shatter negative media myths that preclude full participation in the workplace, marketplace, and communities across the nation and around the world. American Masters: Becoming Helen Keller shatters that “eternal child” trope of seven-year-old Helen Keller at that “aha” moment with teacher Anne Sullivan at the water pump and reveals the complexities of this trailblazing activist who fought for women’s rights, disability rights, voting rights, education and employment, disabled veteran, was an early supporter of the NAACP and ACLU and with American Foundation for the Blind helped establish State Commission for the Blind and “Talking Books” to name a few little-known facts about Helen Keller.

Join the City of Los Angeles Department on Disability, ReelAbilities Film Festival Los Angeles, and Lights! Camera! Access! for this free virtual screening and important discussion. Q&A will be emceed by Nina G and includes American Masters: Becoming Helen Keller Social Media Influencers Dominick Evans and CJ Jones - https://bhk-filmfest.eventbrite.com
