THE EAGLE
News from the Colorado Mountain College Foundation
Greetings! here is your monthly CMC Foundation news update

As hundreds of the world’s top alpine ski racers from the United States, Europe, New Zealand, and beyond descended on Copper Mountain for pre-season training, members of the Colorado Mountain College Alpine Ski Team were training right alongside them.

“At Copper, we were training with the whole world,” said coach Scott Tanner of the college’s coed team. “We have some new blood, and our whole group is super motivated; I’m really happy with the team.”

Tanner said the team has been building during the last three years, and as a coach, he’s working to continue that growth. “Initially, it wasn’t easy to attract the caliber of racers we have, but it’s a different story now,” Tanner said. “I have friends who coach at the U.S. Ski Team, and they’re telling me, ‘Whoa, what’s going on over there?’ The word’s getting out.” Tanner added that support from the college has added the encouragement the team needs.

This season, Tanner said to keep a close watch on freshman Ainsley Profitt from St. Louis, who joined the team this year.

“Ainsley’s No. 1 goal is to make it to World Cup,” Tanner said. “Right now, she’s 200th in the world, and she has a lot to offer. In Steamboat, she’s getting the best training she can while she begins her college education.”

Every year the CMC Foundation facilitates an employee giving campaign where CMC faculty and staff are given the opportunity to give a portion of their paychecks to support their local CMC campus.

This year we had 192 employees participate, raising $74,943! We would also like to thank Alpine Bank who matched the first $25,000. The CMC Foundation matched that $25,000 with strategic funds, which raised our grand total to $124,943 to support local CMC students and programs!

The results of the CMC Team Fund giving campaign can be downloaded by selecting here. You can donate to your local campus endowments anytime by selecting the donate link below and specifying your preferred campus in the "Gift Notes/Tribute Info" box.

CMC students, faculty, staff and community members gathered virtually on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for a discussion about the intersection of CMC and surrounding indigenous homelands.  Guest speaker Ernest House, Jr., a member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Senior Policy Director at the Keystone Policy Center, led the discussion along with CMC President & CEO Carrie Besnette Hauser and CMC faculty members Patrick Staib, Jeremiah Johnson and Kevin Williams.

The event was recorded, and all are encouraged to watch a video of this compelling discussion.

Chloe Krebill became a mom in her junior year at Rifle High School in 2017 and dropped out, but not for educational reasons.

"I was always a great student, in honors and I always loved learning," she said. "But I just wasn't sure how I could continue with my son."

Krebill earned a GED diploma at Colorado Mountain College Rifle in 2018. A Clough Scholarship winner, Krebill then received an associate degree in business in 2020 and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in May 2022.

Krebill is very thankful CMC was there during her tough times. "They taught me a lot, both professionally and personally," she said. "I know I would be in a very different spot if not for them."
Of her journey so far, Krebill said, "I hope others see me as some kind of a role model and see how life doesn't stop when things get hard."
