WKU Student Scholar Showcase April 1
The 53rd Annual WKU Student Scholar Showcase, formerly known as the WKU Student Research Conference, will be held Saturday, April 1, at Downing Student Union.

The WKU Student Scholar Showcase will feature 231 research and creative projects -- 126 poster presentations and exhibits, 94 oral presentations and 11 performances – from graduate, undergraduate and Gatton Academy students in all disciplines. All student projects are mentored by WKU faculty and staff members.

The conference keynote speaker is Dr. Rachel Tinius, Associate Professor in the WKU School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport. Dr. Tinius will present Never Stop Learning: How the Desire to Learn Shaped a Career in Pregnancy and Clinical Research at 10:15 a.m. at Downing Student Union, room 3020.

The schedule features student presentations from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The research and creative projects are organized into graduate sessions and undergraduate sessions with five to six presentations per session. WKU Film Production program prepares students for success
WKU’s BFA in Film Production has seen incredible growth since its introduction in the Fall of 2020, and only continues to grow with each semester that passes. The program is set to produce up to 60 student films this year alone, with an estimated total of 85 majors. The BFA is focused on preparing students for work in the film industry. On student-led production sets, every student has the opportunity to work in each position on set twice in order to be able to do everything well. The program trains students in above-line creative roles as well as below-line technical roles.
Spotlight: New Works Festival
The WKU Department of Theatre & Dance will present New Works Festival 2023 tonight through Saturday at Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre. Slate A will feature six performances at 7:30 tonight and 7:30 Friday night. Slate B will feature seven performances at 2 Saturday afternoon and 7:30 Saturday night. Admission is free; suggested donation is $5 at the door. Recommended for mature audiences.
Dr. Kimberly Green selected for leadership program
The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) announced that 21 members have been selected to participate in its 2023 Leadership Development Program (LDP). Dr. Kimberly Green, chair of the WKU Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders in the College of Health and Human Services is included in the 2023 LDP.
2023 Celebration of the Arts award winners announced
The Kentucky Museum and its sponsors announced the winners of the 2023 Abound Credit Union Celebration of the Arts. Monetary awards were given in 10 categories as well as for Best of Show, the Purchase Award, the World's Greatest Studio Tour Merit Award, and the Artworks Merit Award. S.T.E.A.M. Day exhibit opening
The S.T.E.A.M. Day exhibit will open at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Gallery with a short program at 12:45 p.m. Saturday for Jonesville Academy scholars, their families, and school officials along with WKU faculty, staff, and students. The exhibit will be on display until April 14.
Cultural Enhancement Series continues on Tuesday
Willie Carver, 2022 Kentucky Teacher of the Year, will present Building Hope and Resilience in Advocacy on Tuesday as part of WKU’s Cultural Enhancement Series. Carver’s presentation will begin at 5 p.m. in the Jody Richards Hall Auditorium. Admission is free, no tickets are necessary, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
WKU Folk Studies will wrap up anniversary series today
WKU Folk Studies will wrap up the 50 Years of Folklore Graduate Studies at WKU speaker series with a talk by alumnus Dr. Peggy Bulger at 5:30 p.m. today at the Kentucky Museum. In her talk, “Public Folklore in the USA: Born of Activism,” Dr. Bulger will discuss her experiences with activism throughout her career as a public folklorist.
Events scheduled for Sexual Assault Prevention Month
April is Sexual Assault Prevention Month, and the WKU campus community will kick off activities on Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downing Student Union Courtyard.
How to showcase skills topic for Professional Writing Club
Creating a resume can be overwhelming and interviews can be intimidating. Both of these are meant to display your personal skills, but consolidating information can be difficult. To help students navigate this, the Professional Writing Club held a meeting over Zoom on March 7 to talk over resumes and interview skills with current students.
Office of Institutional Equity will host open house March 30
The office of Institutional Equity will host an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 30 at Wetherby Administration Building, Suite 317. The office of Institutional Equity, which was established in January 2023, is housed within Academic Affairs and encompasses the office of Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action/University ADA Services (EEO), which was previously located on the ground floor of WAB. 
Partnership will showcase SSS-D Student of the Month
TRIO Student Support Services, Disabilities (SSS-D) is partnering with Texas Roadhouse for the “SSS-D Student of the Month” that will allow SSS-D to showcase the excellence it sees in students every day.
View from the Hill
The important role social workers play in the lives of vulnerable families and communities is being highlighted throughout the month of March. WKU’s first Social Work Career Fair is giving students a look at all the various local organizations they can plug into as WKU’s Amy Bingham shows us in this week’s View from the Hill.
