....Ron Korf was not just a successful businessman but a true pillar of the communities he served. From the moment he returned to Yuma in December 1974 to launch Korf Chevrolet Buick, Inc., his passion, and dedication were evident.

...But Ron’s vision was broader than just one dealership. His astute business acumen and forward-thinking mindset propelled him to expand, adding a diverse range of automotive franchises to his portfolio. However, what made Ron truly remarkable was his unwavering commitment to the community. For him, business was not just about profits but also about the positive impact he could make on people’s lives. He was a fervent believer in giving back, in fostering connections, and in playing an active role in the towns and cities where his businesses thrived.

...Ron Korf’s journey was not only about establishing a legacy but also ensuring that this legacy stood the test of time. Understanding the value of succession planning, he wanted to ensure that the businesses he worked so hard to build continued to flourish and serve the communities that they had been a part of for so long.

...The choice of Paul Tew, Jordan Peterson, and Josh Roberts as successors speaks volumes about Ron’s insight into people and his desire to have leaders who shared his values, his passion, and his commitment to community service. These three individuals were not just successors in the traditional sense; they were torchbearers of Ron’s vision.

...Upon Ron’s passing in 2020, the transition to two Auto Group in Northeastern Colorado was a significant moment, ensuring that the businesses he nurtured for decades did not just continue but thrived under new leadership. The continuation of Korf Motors in locations like Yuma, Sterling, Brush, and Fort Morgan is a testament to the resilience and vision of the brand.

...Furthermore, the recent acquisition of the Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store in Fort Morgan reinforces the group’s commitment to expansion and service. It’s a nod to Ron’s spirit of always looking forward and making strategic decisions for sustainable growth.

...With plans to build new stores in Fort Morgan, the future of Korf Motors and the two Auto Group looks promising. This ambition and vision for growth, grounded in the commitment to the communities they serve, is a living tribute to Ron Korf’s legacy.

...Residents of these communities can take solace in the fact that the businesses Ron built with so much love and dedication are in capable hands, and they will continue to be served with the same passion and excellence that Ron championed throughout his life.

...Korf Motors is located at 520 East Chestnut, Sterling, CO 80751. For more information contact them at (970) 522-2523, or their website: http://www.korf.ne/.

Quarterly Report Data Remains Steady

The Colorado Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Aspen Technology Labs (ATL) released its quarterly jobs report. The report provides real-time insights on job vacancies and workforce trends to better understand Colorado’s economic landscape. Overall, the third quarter data remained relatively steady after a significant decline in the previous quarter, indicating relative stability in the Colorado jobs market. Job vacancies increased slightly by 1.1% and the median wage for open positions decreased slightly (-1.3%). Overall, Colorado ranked 11th in the nation for the highest median full-time salary, compared to 13th in the previous quarter. It also ranked 11th for the highest number of vacancies per capita, dropping from ninth in the second quarter. “Colorado employers and job seekers have faced years of volatility in the jobs market,” said Colorado Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “A major pressure point for the business community has been ensuring we have the available workers to fill jobs across the state. While we have a long way to go in addressing the major issues driving our workforce challenges certainty and stability in the jobs market would be welcome news for Colorado

Budget Plans Include Incentives

Gov. Jared Polis proposed roughly $60 million in new workforce incentives as part of his budget plan for the upcoming fiscal year, aimed particularly at expanding apprenticeship programs and increasing ways to upskill workers. The requests to the Colorado Legislature are a small part of the $43.5 billion budget plan, which includes $18.4 billion in proposed general-fund spending and is highlighted by a $141.2 million allocation to pay off the budget stabilization factor and end 14 years of K-12 funding shortfalls. Other priority items that the Democratic governor laid out in a letter to legislators include $136.7 million in housing investments focused on transit-oriented communities and accessory dwelling units and a $39.6 million crime-prevention package. But Polis also made a special point in that letter — sent to the elected officials who now will begin debating and changing the plan — of emphasizing the need to invest in workforce development, sometimes with money focused on specific sectors such as infrastructure. Such investments, he said, go hand in hand with proposed boosts to educational funding, such as his suggested $33.4 million to hold college tuition increases below the rate of inflation and the $8 million more that he wants to put toward enrichment in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. “Colorado’s workers are at the heart of our economy, and right now our state has two available jobs for every Coloradan,” Polis wrote. That’s why we remain committed to connecting all Coloradans to quality and affordable upskilling, training or educational programs that lead to good-paying jobs. This is important for Coloradans supporting themselves and their families, and for strengthening our businesses.”

Federal Regulators Eye Requirements

America’s banking sector is an integral part of the nation’s economy. Companies of all shapes and sizes, across diverse communities, rely on the financing banks provide to start, run, and grow their businesses. However, federal banking regulators in Washington, D.C. may soon increase bank capital requirements that could harm businesses and by extension the American economy. These policy changes, known as “final Basel III” or “Basel III endgame,“ were developed in 2017 by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) — a standard setting body made up of bank regulators from around the globe. These standards could do significant harm to main street businesses and the U.S. economy if banking regulators fail to make some major changes when implementing the capital requirement. America’s banks are overseen by an alphabet soup of federal regulators each with distinct but interrelated responsibilities, including setting rules requiring banks to hold a certain amount of capital as a means of protecting against losses on loans and investments. Here, “capital” primarily means shareholder equity and financial assets that fund lending and can be used to absorb losses. This capital serves as a buffer to help prevent banks from failing but comes with significant costs to banks, and by extension to their customers. When capital requirements for banks are increased, they are forced to choose between offering less financing to customers or offering it a higher cost. As a whole, increasing capital requirements makes it more expensive for banks to provide financing to corporations, main street business, and consumers. Research from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision – the body that devised the new capital standards – has shown that more stringent bank regulations make bank credit more expensive for borrowers. In addition, for every percentage point increase in capital requirements, there is an associated increase of up to 13 basis points in loan spreads. Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that large banks may be required to increase their capital by more than 20%.

New Rules

Appeals Court Agrees With Chamber

On Oct. 31,, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found that the SEC acted arbitrarily and failed to justify its costs in its final rule on stock buybacks. Tom Quaadman, Executive Vice President of the U.S. Chamber’s Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness (CCMC), released the following statement in response to the Chamber’s victory in its lawsuit against the Securities and Exchange Commission’s stock buyback rule. “Yesterday’s decision by the Fifth Circuit is a victory for the ability of companies to make business decisions free from government micromanagement. Stock buybacks are an important tool for companies to grow their businesses and return value to shareholders — including millions of Americans saving for retirement. The court ruled that the SEC acted arbitrarily and failed to substantiate the costs and benefits of its rule, which reflects deeper problems regarding the commission’s rulemaking process."
