Mask supply update
You'll soon see some different mask types being distributed. In the past, CHCS has been able to request free KN95 masks from the state, but that is no longer the case, and our supplies are dwindling.

We have a robust supply of surgical masks, which are considered equivalent to KN95s. A majority of these masks are tie-backs. We recognize that this is not the preferred style, but we need to use the supplies we have before purchasing additional masks.

Thanks for your understanding as we work to use the supplies we have in storage and be fiscally responsible.

Happy in Healthcare
Thanks to our amazing Onaga Lab team for making a TikTok video for the Kansas Hospital Association Happy in Health Care contest! The aim of the contest is to help spark interest in healthcare careers among middle school and high school students. Entries will be accepted until Dec. 31, so it's not too late if your department would like to get in on the action!

Irene, Jasper, and Nicole did a great job showing off our facilities--and some great dance moves! Click the image to watch the video.
Our hand hygiene program is making great strides!

The goal is 95% or greater compliance, and we have remained above 90% since July. Our hand hygiene committee meets monthly to review results from secret observers who are assigned for three-month periods in the OR, Lab, Radiology, and Nursing.

We have increased the number of wall dispensers for easy access to hand sanitizer, changed the product in the dispensers based on staff preference, and encouraged the use of Remedy hand cream for associates while they are at work.

Thanks to all who have served as observers and to everyone for making great progress as work to reach 95% compliance!
Corning Clinic change
Corning Clinic availability will change to Thursday evenings effective in January. We have shared the social media graphic below, placed ads in Seneca and Onaga newspapers, and printed flyers to send to patients and post as necessary.
EAP update: App enhances user experience
Are you using the Vital WorkLife App available as part of our Employee Assistance Program? Modules in the app provide access to counseling, coaching, legal, and financial resources.

Beginning January 4, the app will automatically refresh with new login, security, personalization, and feature enhancements such as the ability to view past assessments and compare results and progress.

  • The login process will be personalized and more secure. Users will be prompted to create a new profile using their current Company Username and their own email and password.
  • Our current company username is chcsks. The current password is member.
Join Screen Sanity in January!
The Mental Health Committee is bringing you Screen Sanity, a highly acclaimed program designed to help parents and grandparents unpack the hottest screen time topics.

Thank you
I want to take a moment to express my sincere thank you to all of my friends and colleagues who have shown their kindness to me and my family in light of my husband’s current health issues. Not only do you enrich the health and lives of the people you serve, but also the people who serve along with you. The amount of support we have received, in many more ways than one, has been mindboggling. I am extremely blessed to work among so many thoughtful, kindhearted individuals. A mere thank you can never sufficiently express how truly grateful I am for each one of you.

God Bless,
Tiffany Sanders

Thank you to all associates who donated silent auction items, food, and time to the Sanders family benefit. Several CHCS associates were there to serve, and we received several compliments about how everyone worked together and made everything go smoothly! This is one of the great blessings of a small community: Everyone comes together to show their support!

Learn more about prior authorization
Plains Spoken, the Kansas Hospital Association podcast, took on a tough topic earlier this month.

"A Healthcare Perspective: Prior Authorizations Process May Compromise Patient Care" looks to describe the barriers organizations like CHCS face when working to ensure patients have access to necessary care.
Christmas spirit
Onaga Registration and Access Services is really into Christmas attire! Looking good, crew!
St. Marys High School FFA students collaborated with the St. Marys Police Department to provide gifts and goody bags to St. Marys Manor residents. It brought many smiles to residents' faces!
Some elves visited the parking lot in Onaga earlier this week to distribute candy canes. (Santa's deputies were Brayden and Brinley, children of RN Ashley Bean.)
The Grinch surprised new associates who attended orientation on Thursday, December 15. Kaylee LaMastus of the Onaga Business Office was behind the costume. Thank you, Kaylee!
Eastridge staff enjoyed a Christmas party with snacks, a gift exchange and some festive attire. For more photos of the fun, visit the CHCS Facebook page.
