Dear Member, Stakeholder, Supporter,
With the warmer weather comes a hope that this summer will be a huge success and we can put the past two years behind us. Even though our players were fantastic at following the instructions during the pandemic it will be nice to see them hop out of cars and run to the field rather than hand sanitizing, contract tracing, and field entry and exit protocols.

With this new found freedom comes a reminder that we are still committed to 'build back better'. We spoke last week about the shortage of referees and the need for us all to 'respect the ref' if we want any hope of games being officiated in the future. This week we want to focus on the field locations and park areas. PFC

Staff across all three areas (Facility, Technical and Administration) have been in contact regularly with City of Pickering staff to make sure our fields are prepared and well-maintained for a busy outdoor season. 'Game time' brings our fields to life with packed team benches and family/friends out to cheer on the teams.

When the referee blows the final whistle and the players have gone home we want to see only the soccer field and bleachers left standing.
Please keep in mind these important points to help the City and Club provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our players:

1. Goals are not gymnastics equipment or jungle gyms! Whether a goal is fixed in the ground or not please make sure that children are not climbing on them and not swinging from cross bars or posts. It may put your child or another user at risk.

2. Garbage cans are emptied regularly by the City. Please make sure that they are used and that bleachers and team benches are cleared at the end of your game. Many residents assume that garbage left at a field is from our teams simply because we are there often. Let's continue to do a great job and clean up after ourselves.

3. Parking is limited at some field locations. Please keep access to driveways and lane-ways open and clear so that we are respecting the local residents. Remember, that access may be needed for ambulance access in an emergency.

4. Inclement weather will happen. As a Club we make a final decision on field conditions by 4pm each day and this will be posted to social media and shared with your head coach through the Sports Engine app. Unlike other Durham Region municipalities that control field closures, Pickering FC has a long-standing and trusted relationship with the City of Pickering to do the right thing and manage our field usage appropriately. We will assess; the risk of thunder and lightning, current state of the fields, build up of surface water, and other factors before we need to close a field.

Finally, we're here to help. If you see a concern with a playing field or equipment at a particular location, please inform our Facility Manager Joe Roccasalva at pscjr@pickeringfc.ca. He will work with the City and his team to correct any concerns.

Logan Learns to Play
Logan longs to play soccer when he sees his classmates playing out on the field. Kicking the ball with his walker seems like a daunting task as he has grown up with Cerebral Palsy. When he is introduced to an inclusive and accessible All Abilities program, he finds himself surrounded by a community of friends, family and fun.

Logan Learns to play can be purchased at the Pickering Soccer Centre or via Amazon Canada for $15.00. Shipping is extra.

To purchase from the Pickering Soccer Centre, please contact Tammy at 905-831-9803 x 207, or email her at allabilities@pickeringfc.ca.
