WINTER BASKETBALL
Boys 5th/6th Recaps:

There were some close games this weekend in the Boys 5th/6th division as we had some great matchups. The Bucks barely put out the Heat's fire to win 34-33 while the battle of the boroughs found the Knicks victorious over the Nets 38-32. The Magic caught the Pistons with some car trouble this week, winning 27-25.

There were also some runaways this week as the Cavs dominated the Raptors 34-13. The Bulls managed to stampede the Hornets 37-13. Last, but not least, we saw the Celtics get lucky against the Sixers with a 39-31 win.
Girls 5th/6th Recaps:

In a fast paced, back-and-forth game, the duo of Chain and Diamond led the Dream to an upset victory of 31-28 over the Fever.

The Sky remained undefeated, playing the Mystics in a highly entertaining exhibition game.

Aniya Hardikar led all scorers in the Liberty's convincing win of 32-23 over the Rockers.
Boys 7th/8th Recaps:

There were a couple close games and some not so close this week in the Boys 7th/8th division. The Rockets had a successful mission against the Blazers with a 47-45 win. The Kings weren't scared of the Thunder as they had an impressive 48-34 win. We also saw the Warriors playing to their own tune against the Jazz with a close 42-40 win. The Nuggets were victorious against the Lakers to wrap up the division action this weekend.

The 7th Grade Girls team Storm played in two ICBA games this weekend, winning both and moving to 4-0 and sole possession of first place in Division 2. On Friday night, they hosted a Council Rock team that walked into General Wayne sporting a 3-0 record. Ava Hall went off for 22 points to lead the Storm. Maddie Walsh chipped in 6 of her 9 points in the fourth quarter, as well as a lot of hustle and grit. The Storm trailed 20-17 at the half, but entered the 4th quarter tied at 30. They came away 40-36 winners after a stifling defensive quarter.
On Sunday, the team traveled to Ridley and started off a little slow, leading 9-7 after the first quarter. After waking up, the Storm cruised to a 36-16 victory with Kate Weikert leading the way with 14 points, including going 5 of 6 from the charity stripe, as well as dropping 6 assists to help teammates score. The Storm continue next weekend with ICBA games against Paoli, Hatboro Horsham, and Montgomery, as well as a Malvern League game against Lower Merion.
Two of the ICBA Division I powerhouses faced each other earlier that Friday night. Unfortunately the 5th grade girls GVBL Hive team lost a tough one to 1st place HVAA 40-23.
The GV 29ers picked up a 44-9 win over Boyertown in ICBA play this past weekend. Noah Gardner’s 9 points and stellar passing earned him many assists as he spread the ball around, allowing several teammates to score. Matthew Kasser was a layup machine, leading all scorers with 20 points. Unfortunately, weather canceled our Malvern League game but we look forward to having all our games next weekend!
Jr Hoopsters

Great Valley Basketball is always about Defense...and we start 'em young! Jr Hoopsters learning defensive slides this past weekend.
Covid-19
GVBL will continue following the guidance of the state, Chester County and the schools in which we are participating. In early December we posted, and subsequently messaged, the masking policy on the www.gvco.org website. It is included on the basketball news & updates section. As an organization we heavily rely on the state, county and school district's due diligence and direction/guidance with all of our health and safety decision making. This will continue to be how we operate with regard to Covid protocols going forward.
GVHS Girls Basketball

Tremendous road win today vs WC Henderson!! GV 51. HHS 41. The execution wasn't always perfect but the girls "will to win" never wavered. Always tough to win on the road, especially against a talented team. The record improves to 6-5 overall (2-2 league). Next game will be on Tuesday against Kennett High School.
GVHS Boys Basketball

The GVHS boys played so hard and NEVER gave up despite a 69-65 loss to WC East. We are all so proud of them.

GVMS Girls Basketball

The 7th grade GVMS girls basketball team closed out its season with a pair of road wins to cap off a perfect 10-0 campaign. On Monday, the team traveled to Kennett Middle School and came home with a 27-14 victory. In the season finale, the team went to Chichester Middle School and controlled the game from the jump, finishing out its undefeated season with a 25-9 victory. The team combines offensive fire power with stifling defense and a resilient attitude. Congratulations to all the players and Coach Hufnagl!
GVMS Boys Basketball

The boys' games started Jan. 14th with a home game against Kennett.

This weekend is the beginning of the end to a great cheer season. We can’t believe that we started our season five months ago in August outside at the middle school and are now indoors at basketball games!

We are now cheering for the GVBL Tournament Team games during their Sunday home games at the Middle School. There are four teams we are cheering for and our squad is split up by grade to support them.

Caring Hands
GVCO Ends 2021 Right Where It Started The Year...Giving Back.

In early December GVCO partnered with GWES PTO and their winter coat drive. As you are aware it was a tremendous success, with 125 winter coats being donated. The goal was to redistribute the donated coats locally to those in need. In mid December GVCO was connected to some administrators at Devereux Behavioral Health Services, who has multiple locations in the area. They were very excited and very much in need of the coats.
After a few emails with the admin office in Devon, we were e-introduced to some programming coordinators at both Devereux's locations on Sugartown Rd and also their Boot Rd community. It was a great fit as they collaborated and determined each individual need for each coat.

On New Year's Eve day the coats were delivered, and distributed New Years Day weekend! Devereux was very appreciative and thought it was a tremendous undertaking and donation. Kudo's to the GWES PTO and the Great Valley community for their geneosity and support.
GVCO Community Partnership
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health
Changing the World – one person, one family, one community at a time
In late 2021, GVCO connected with Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health through a recent Coat Drive initiative held at GWES. The goal of the initiative was to receive donated coats from the community to try and address needs right here in the immediate area. After GVCO reached out to the local Devereux administrative offices in Devon, we were directed to the Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) Mapleton School located on Sugartown Rd. in Malvern.

With its mission, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health changes lives by unlocking and nurturing human potential for people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences. Devereux serves children and adolescents from ages birth to 21 with emotional and behavioral health challenges across southeastern Pennsylvania. These children are cared for in the environment best suited for their growth and well-being, including acute care, residential treatment, approved private schools, foster care and outpatient services. All of our programs embrace four significant essentials of treatment: family engagement, functional behavior assessment, trauma-informed care and positive behavior support.

Devereux has locations in Malvern, Devon, East Goshen, as well as numerous others across southeasten Pennsylvania. Our GV families and the Great Valley Community Organization are committed to assisting our wonderful partners here in our district/region, in an effort to build a stronger community through helping those partners meet their mission and vision.

GVCO Project Update
GVCO is excited to announce that we have been awarded $750,000.00 of state funding to assist with the construction of our new GVCO Community Center. With the help of Senator Comitta to secure the funding, GVCO sees this as another milestone towards making this wonderful community asset a reality for Great Valley and the surrounding region.

Please see Senator Comitta's recent announcement of the grant this past Monday. We would also like to thank Governor Wolf and the Office of the Budget of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for authorizing this award, supporting GVCO and our project.

GVCO Donor Spotlight
McAneney Family
Volunteers are the cornerstone of the Great Valley Community Organization and Vince McAneney is no exception. Vince and his wife, Debbie first got involved when their children participated in GVBL and the Challenger Gym Program. Scott continued to play GVBL straight through to the High School League while Erica & Shannon volunteered to become Buddies for the Challenger Gym Program and Ryan donated his shredding services at R-Mobile Shredding to numerous GVCO fundraisers.

When GVCO started GVFL, Vince jumped right in to coach his son Scott and his buddies. A year later he became President of the league and held that position for 7+ years, stepping down at the end of the 2018 season. His fondest memory was when he coached with his son Scott – such a great experience for father and son. Vince hopes that others in the community would take advantage of all the great things GVCO is doing and use those opportunities as a way to further connect with their own kids and the entire Great Valley Community. Vince believes that time invested in our youth is never wasted and encourages anyone thinking of making a bigger commitment to GVCO, whether through volunteering or donating, to “Just Do It”.
