Striving to Stand Out Fundraising Campaign
Why are we raising money?
We are Striving to Stand Out: Excellence, Access, and Community through the Arts! We want our BPA programs to Stand Out! We are raising funds to:
-
Support excellent high-quality educational experiences.
-
Provide access so ALL BPA students can participate fully in the program.
-
Collaborate with professional performing artists to enrich our programs and create community through the arts!
Help Us Provide Access
| |
Take a look at the yellow section in the pie graph. The BPA Boosters Club is committed to ensuring every student can participate fully in weekend long camps, day field trips to attend festivals or parades, and overnight field trips for competitions or performances in world-renowned venues like Carnegie Hall and Disneyland.
Sadly, the school district does not pay for any of these expenses so the financial burden falls on our families. Thanks to generous BPA supporters, like you, who donated during our direct appeal last fall, we were able to help level the playing field and provide access by giving out nearly $30,000 in scholarships.
This year our programs have already held their fall camps, attended parades, and are gearing up for numerous other festivals, parades, competitions and overnight trips to Portland, Vancouver, and Reno in the spring. Your donations to our Striving to Stand Out campaign will ensure that all our BPA students have access to these life-changing experiences!
Why I Give
"As the parent of a senior who has been in choir for four years, BHS is a large school, but performing arts is the one place where your student will have the same teacher for all four years. These directors see your students transform from nervous freshman into seniors who are ready to take their next steps into adulthood. And arguably play a large role in making that happen. No one else here has such consistent exposure to your student. We are truly blessed to have our directors and the work they do for our community."
- Stephanie Skinner, BPAB Webmaster and Fundraising Chair
This direct appeal is our primary fundraiser for the year aiming to raise $35,0000.
We are halfway through our campaign, but only 30% of the way to our goal; please donate today!

*The campaign will run from Now - Nov 15, 2023.

Jazz Concert recap
The Royal Room concert last week was a resounding success! There was a fantastic mix of music and all the students played beautifully. The new Lab Band Brass Band made their debut with a Lil’ Rascals brass band tune “Buck It” and the jazz combo featured vocalist Amalia Sanchez Aguirre singing Catalina La O. Our new Jazz 2 coach Alexis Rosenberg did a fantastic job on her first concert with Ballard and Jazz 1 killed it as usual. So glad we have such a supportive community to make the drive and support our fabulous jazz program!

Students will also be able to engage with the Navy Band musicians for instrument specific masterclasses after school, and have dinner provided (if they purchased a ticket). Navy Band Northwest is one of 14 bands in the United States Navy, and they are stationed on Naval Base Bangor in Kitsap County. Members of Navy Band Northwest hold music degrees from some of the most prestigious music schools and conservatories in the world and perform over 400 concerts a year for audiences exceeding one million people. The Navy Band Northwest Wind Ensemble is one of the premier professional wind ensembles in the Pacific Northwest and we are so lucky to get a chance for our students to perform alongside them!

The marching band will be performing at the Veterans Day Parade in Auburn. We need help with uniform return. Please sign up to volunteer. The parade route travels along Main Street from E Street to A Street NW/SW and runs from 11-2. Call time for students and chaperones is 7:30 am (remember to wear band t-shirts and black socks!). If you missed the concert this past week, you can watch it on the BPA YouTube page: www.youtube.com/ballardperformingarts
Congratulations on a beautiful performance by Concert Choir, with Apollo5 at St Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral.
Thank you to all of the family and friends who came out to support our students. We enjoyed a wonderful evening of music from Apollo5, who showed the audience what an incredible full and rich sound can be made with just five voices. They sang music that was centuries old and music that was composed for them, just a couple of years ago. Our students in Concert Choir joined choralists from Overlake School and from Lincoln High School to sing “Wayfaring Stranger” and “Homeward Bound”, both arranged for Apollo5 by Paul Smith. Seattle Pro Musica rounded out the evening. The members of Apollo5 stayed after the concert to take pictures with and to talk with the students. If, like me, you are now an Apollo5 fan, you can learn more about them at https://apollo5.co.uk/.

Student Fundraiser | Order Coffee Now - Nov 15
We are partnering with Caffe Appassionato in Magnolia once again to sell delicious 12 oz bags of coffee to family, friends, and neighbors. This is an important fundraiser for your BPA student if they are currently a freshman, sophomore, or junior. For every $14 bag purchased under their name, students will earn $6. That $6 is credited to that student's account and those funds can then be used for camp payments, or program fees in the fall, and they can even be transferred to a younger sibling when a student graduates. Sales without a student name or marked general will go to the music ASB account to help with music program support.
Choose from four delicious blends (in both drip ground and whole bean):
-
Arietta Blend - A medium roast with a mellow and smooth flavor. Notes of cardamom, tart, caramel and undertones of milk chocolate, strawberry and jasmine.
-
Tempest Blend - As a bold and strong French Roast, it accentuates a dark and full body with a smoky finish. Notes of caramel, toffee, and orange and undertones of raspberry, hazelnut, and cinnamon.
-
Espresso Blend - A bright and smooth Italian roast. Perfect for silky smooth espresso or robust drip.
-
Decaffeinated - A French roast that is smooth with a caramel finish. Notes of blackberry, almond, and toffee, and undertones of vanilla, cinnamon, and tangerine.
Orders can be placed online on the Schoolpay page between October 18 – November 15. Coffee orders will be given to students at their music performance in December (Dec. 12 - orchestra; Dec. 13 - band; Dec. 14 - choir). Students should then deliver the coffee to their customers. Thank you for supporting the performing arts!
