“ I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.”

-Psalm 130:5-

Lazarus come out!

Jesus shouted three words. Who would say such words to a dead man? His heart isn’t beating; his lungs aren’t expanding- he is dead.

The scene was surreal. The stench of a four-day-old dead man filled the nostrils of all those nearby. Then, Jesus’ words echoed off of the nearby hills filling the ears of everyone. “Lazarus come out!”

Then . . . Lazarus came out.

The crowd must have gasped, the family must have screamed, and Jesus must have smiled. The dead man came out. When The Lord speaks things happen. For example, when The Lord says, “Let there be light.” There was light. When The Lord shouts to the stormy sea “be still” it was. When The Lord says, “Lazarus come out.” Well, you guessed it, the dead man came out of the tomb.

But The Lord’s words are not just reserved for the light, the sea, or even the dead Lazarus. The Lord’s words are for you too. “Come to me all you who are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” He does.  When our Lord says, “Take and eat, this is my body,” and “take and drink this is my blood.” It is. When The Lord speaks things happen. When our Lord says, “You are forgiven.” You are.

There is a day coming when The Lord will speak again. Jesus says “...a time is coming when everyone in their graves will hear his voice and come out. Those who have done good will rise to life, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”* Jesus’ words will once again raise the dead to life! We are dead in our sins destined to condemnation without the salvation we have in Jesus. He destroyed our sins on the cross where our Lord Jesus Christ used three words:“It is finished.”

See you Sunday, when we hear the words of Jesus. I can't wait!

Prayer: Jesus, help us to trust in your words. AMEN

 *John 5:28-29

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Getting to know the people of Grace Fellowship

Meet Jesse & Amy Meryhew

and their daughter, Jacey

Jesse is one of our Leadership Board members here at Grace Fellowship and also serves on our high school youth ministry team. He also fills in on Sundays for Pastor Austin on occasion.

We've watched Jacey grow up over the years into a beautiful young lady. She likes to help with Vacation Bible School and sing with the worship team when her busy schedule allows it. Amy is one of the sweetest souls you will meet, always with a warm smile. She is one of our Bible readers.

Please keep their family in your prayers this week and especially pray safety over Jacey who just got her driver's license.

How long have you lived in the valley?

I (Amy) have lived in the valley since 1997 and Jesse moved up full-time in 2001. We are both from the Grand Junction area but didn't meet until college.

What do you and your family like to do in your spare time?

We love skiing, camping, boating, concerts, sporting events, and spending time with family.

What is something fun you can share about your family that we might not already know?

Jesse coached baseball from 2011-2017 at EVHS and is now an assistant coach for softball- coaching Jacey. Jacey danced up until she started high school and is now playing softball and running track. I (Amy) was a gymnast growing up and still attempt a standing backflip on or around my birthday every year!
