COVID Implications Update

As we are all aware, the number of positive cases has been overwhelming in the month of January. Last week we reinstituted the mask requirement here at UMCWFB. Out of an abundance of caution, we are going to continue requiring masks for the rest of the month.

We are planning to resume our
Wednesday Night Live
meal and programming
on February 2nd.
It is our prayer that as February arrives
we will be able to lift our mask policy.
We will keep you informed as we move forward.

Feb.10, 7 p.m. Zoom Workshop
on Political Polarization
Presented by Braver Angels

The United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay’s Church and Society Team sponsors a Zoom workshop on “Depolarizing Within” on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
The Depolarizing Within workshop is presented by the Braver Angels organization.

The workshop is designed to teach participants to look within and develop strategies for engaging in conversations about politics without demonizing the other side.
The mission of Braver Angels, a national citizens organization, is to "bring Americans together to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen our democratic republic.”

Registrants can sign up for free or make a donation to Braver Angels.
A link for signing up is on the Braver Angels Eventbrite Page, where UMC of Whitefish Bay is listed as a partner organization. Click below to sign up.

Those registering for the workshop will get a confirmation email with a link to the participant's guide, which can be printed. The PDF of the guide also is linked HERE. Registrants also receive an email with the Zoom link two days before the event and a reminder the day of the event.

Walt and Sue Ebersohl, co-chairpersons of the Church and Society Team, urge people with views across the political spectrum – “Red and Blue” – to sign up for the workshop. “Anyone interested in more fully exploring polarization and the remedies for it is welcome.”
The Mission Team would like to co-sponsor an Afghan Refugee Family in collaboration with an organization involved with refugee resettlement.

If you are interested in being a part of a Mission sub-team working with an Afghan family, contact
Don Lybeck at 414-807-5789/ mdonlybeck@sbcglobal.net
or Cynthia Boock at 414-573-5203/ cboock2645@gmail.com.

Co-sponsors help with activities such as furnishing an apartment, transportation, scheduled check-ins to ensure needs are met, and serving as a cultural navigator. The refugee resettlement organization assists the co-sponsor in securing sustainable employment for refugees. The church would also need to contribute some financial support.

JANUARY 2022 MISSION OF THE MONTH
UNIVERSITY CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

University Christian Ministries (UCM) is an interdenominational campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) campus. UCM works to engage students at UWM in discovering, exploring, experiencing, and growing their faith as followers of Jesus Christ. Their programs range from free lunches to study/discussion groups. This fall many students returned to in-person classes at UWM. To support students UCM has opened again to in-person meals and programs. Over 50 new students have attended UCM this fall as we continue to draw new participation almost every week. Our student staff continues to do an excellent job of helping to rebuild our campus ministry as we nurture student bodies and spirits. UM Women from our church have provide lunches one Wednesday of each semester and our members are or have served on the governing boards of UCM.
