November 3, 2023

Dear Parents,

I recently co-chaired an accreditation team for the Archdiocese. It was a great experience to validate the success of the Christian culture at another diocesan school. Catholic schools are gaining momentum and growing in this chaotic climate in which we live. Observing the students and their level of confidence was most impressive. They were polite, well-mannered, friendly, well-spoken and very welcoming to our team of six strangers to their school. Being on this team not only validated the school we were evaluating, but also validates my choices in being part of the wonderful things happening here at St. Matthews School.

We have received very generous donations this past week from multiple local and surrounding area businesses. We have met our goal for our daycare addition and will continue our plans to update school bathrooms, classrooms, playground and drop off areas through your continued donations. Thank you for all your contributions to this dream becoming a reality. We plan to break ground in February.

This school year, we will be administering the WI Forward Exam tests to all students in Grades 3 and up. This is the statewide required testing from the Department of Public Instruction and will provide us the data to compare, improve, and plan our curriculum. The testing will take place in spring. Grades 3, 5, 6 and 7 will be tested in Math and Language Arts and Grades 4 and 8 will test in subject areas including Math, Science, Social Studies and English/Language Arts. Stay tuned for information about testing and times as we get closer to spring.

We are making raffle baskets for Grandparent’s Day. If you would like to donate $2 toward the baskets, please send money to the school office and we will take care of purchasing the items and putting them together. We are making a Chocolate Basket, Coffee & Hot Chocolate Basket and a Book Basket. Thank you in advance. If you have not yet turned in Grandparent’s/Special Guest lunch reservations, please have them turned in by early next week. We are so excited to spend the morning with our special people! Remember, we have early dismissal at 12:30pm on Grandparent's Day.

Please make sure that you are checking your child’s backpacks every night (especially Fridays) for items sent home by the teachers and school office. We want to keep you informed with fun and academic events we are having and need to send home papers with information to best communicate with you.

Enjoy the weekend!

I just wanted to say Thank You to everyone who said a prayer for me while I was out on medical leave. Your prayers did not go unnoticed and were answered. It is nice to be back and see everyone again.

I would like to say an even bigger Thank You to Mrs. Norton and the other staff and volunteers for covering for me while I was out. It was so nice to come back and not have to worry about catching up. They did a fantastic job!
