Warrior Games Recap
Written by: Ilyssa Cruz, AMSG Military Adaptive Sports Program Coordinator
AMSG currently supports the Defense Health Agency and as part of this support, we assist with the annual Warrior Games. After the 2021 Warrior Games were cancelled due to the global pandemic, the Department of Defense developed a plan to provide the sports virtually; enabling warriors from all military branches to engage and compete with one another via the web. The sports offered included: archery, air rifle/air pistol; swimming; cycling; track; powerlifting; rowing; wheelchair basketball and many others. Warriors had the opportunity to either submit a video for their sport or compete live through Zoom. All the military participants had fun experiencing this event virtually and connected well with each other.

What was truly amazing was the fact that the Services came together as a team to host this virtual challenge. The Virtual Warrior Games provided an opportunity to challenge Service members in the sports they had been training for all year. And the event also helped the Service Leads with training in how to host a virtual event/challenge – skills that can be used in the future!
