What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady). To apply to any limited submission posted in this newsletter, click on the link below and search for your competition listed on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a general list of requirements. However, it is recommended that you go to the specific competition as soon as possible and review the requirements to ensure that you are preparing what is requested since the required information for competitions may vary.

Found a Limited Submission opportunity that interests you?
If so, please contact the PSFS office sooner than later so that an internal competition can be created for a timely, university-wide, fair and equitable selection process that allows for ample time for review, feedback and revisions.

The R3 program seeks to implement research within NASA and commercial partners to address technical issues. This opportunity will allow EPSCoR researchers to work alongside NASA and commercial partners for up to one year and is intended to strengthen the bonds among EPSCoR jurisdictions, NASA, commercial partners, and other entities. Proposals for technical/scientific areas listed in the solicitation will be accepted.
There is no requirement that Science/Co PIs be U.S. citizens, however, foreign nationals (e.g., non-U.S. citizens who do not have a green card) will likely not be permitted access to NASA Centers. This may or may not be relevant to the research being proposed. The AU Science-I/Co-I's should propose for $80K (which will be a sub-award from UAH).
Note - The internal submission requirements for this opportunity differ from the traditional limited submission.
Institutional Limit: 6 Proposals
Internal Deadline: November 16, 2023, 4:45pm

The Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) Program within the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (IIP) offers researchers from all disciplines of science and engineering funded by NSF the opportunity to perform translational research and technology development, catalyze partnerships and accelerate the transition of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace for societal benefit.
This solicitation offers two broad tracks for proposals:
The Technology Translation (PFI-TT) track offers the opportunity to translate prior NSF-funded research results in any field of science or engineering into technological innovations with promising commercial potential and societal impact. PFI-TT supports commercial potential demonstration projects for academic research outputs in any NSF-funded science and engineering discipline. This demonstration is achieved through proof-of-concept, prototyping, technology development and/or scale-up work. Successful PFI-TT projects generate technology-driven commercialization outcomes that address societal needs.
Please Note: You DO NOT need to compete in the limited submission competition if you are applying to the Technology Translation track only.
The Research Partnerships (PFI-RP) track seeks to achieve the same goals as the PFI-TT track by supporting instead complex, multi-faceted technology development projects that are typically beyond the scope of a single researcher or institution and require a multi-organizational, interdisciplinary, synergistic collaboration. A PFI-RP project requires the creation of partnerships between academic researchers and third-party organizations such as industry, non-academic research organizations, federal laboratories, public or non-profit technology transfer organizations or other universities. Such partnerships are needed to conduct applied research on a stand-alone larger project toward commercialization and societal impact. In the absence of such synergistic partnership, the project’s likelihood for success would be minimal.
Institutional Limit for PFI-RP Proposals: 1 Proposal
Internal Deadline: November 16, 2023, 4:45pm
Funder Deadline: Jan. 2, 2024, 5:00pm CT

Center for Clinical and Translational Science Offers Mentoring/Training Programs
Applications due December 15, 2023
The CCTS is accepting applications for programs for early-career faculty and doctoral students in translational research focused on addressing health disparities and/or clinical conditions that disproportionately affect the Deep South.
Mentored Career Development (K) Program is for early-career faculty who have recently finished a research or health professional doctorate in translational research. The goal of the program is to impart the knowledge, experience, and perspective required to develop a network of independent investigators. The program culminates in lead-author manuscripts and an extramurally funded research grant submission.

The humanities are essential for the health of American civic life and the Cornerstone: Learning for Living initiative aims to revitalize the role of the humanities in general education and in doing so, expose a broad array of students to the power of the humanities; help students of all backgrounds build a sense of belonging and community; strengthen the coherence and cohesiveness of general education; and increase teaching opportunities for humanities faculty.
Institutions will be selected based on the design and scale of their proposed programs.

The Simons Foundation invites applications for funding to support new research professor positions in existing academic departments (the “host institutions”) to be filled by scientific software-focused researchers. The SSRF Award will support researchers who have a strong track record of leadership in scientific software development. The aim of this program is to stimulate the development and maintenance of core scientific software infrastructure in academic environments through creating a new, long-term, faculty-level career path.
Awardees must be hired as clinical professors, professors of practice, or equivalent-level positions in a mathematics, astronomy, or physics department such that 50 percent of their time is dedicated to teaching and/or supporting computational efforts within the department.

The focus of this project should be on improving the lives of horses by increasing our
understanding of the behavioral domain. This includes areas such as cognition,
learning, stereotypies, separation anxiety, affiliative behavior toward (bonding with)
humans, the effects of equine temperament on welfare, and equine
psychopharmacology. Projects using behavioral measurements simply as a tool to
address non-behavioral hypotheses are not of interest.
Pilot study proposals should be aimed at generating data to prove the viability of a
novel approach or idea.
The project may involve domesticated or wild horses.
Proposals Due: December 13, 2023, 4:59pm ET

In today's increasingly networked, distributed, and asynchronous world, cybersecurity involves hardware, software, networks, data, people, and integration with the physical world. Achieving a truly secure cyberspace requires addressing both challenging scientific and engineering problems involving many components of a system, and vulnerabilities that stem from human behaviors and choices.
The SaTC program welcomes proposals that address cybersecurity and privacy, drawing on expertise in one or more of these areas: computing, communication, and information sciences; engineering; education; mathematics; statistics; and social, behavioral, and economic sciences.
Proposals that advance the field of cybersecurity and privacy within a single discipline or interdisciplinary efforts that span multiple disciplines are both welcome.
Proposals accepted anytime, 5:00pm CT
