MANY HANDS UPDATES
Celebrating with the 2022 Grantees!
Members of the Many Hands Board and Focus Area Committees had the great pleasure last month of presenting award checks to the 2022 grantees: My Sister's Place (above), Beacon House, CAAB, and Nueva Vida. My Sister's Place received the Impact Grant of $100,000; Beacon House, CAAB, and Nueva Vida each received $67,000 in unrestricted Partner Grants. We look forward to partnering with all four organizations throughout the coming year to help inform our community about their work.

MEMBERS CORNER
Member Spotlight: Stephanie Nealer
Stephanie Nealer joined Many Hands in 2017 and has served on all four Focus Area Committees. After 30 years as an award-winning international radio journalist, she transitioned to the nonprofit sector, serving first as development director and then on the board at Bethesda's Adventure Theatre. She currently volunteers to narrate audio books for Learning Ally, which serves children with visual and learning difficulties:

"Why did I join Many Hands? And why, after 5 years, am I still excited to participate in its important work? A friend who was on the Many Hands board introduced me to the organization, and I was enticed by the powerful opportunity of pooling donations from hundreds of women to make a significant contribution to help nonprofits working to meet the needs of women, children, and families in the DC region. But I have learned that Many Hands is so much more than just donations from many hands. Many Hands brings together many smart women from many backgrounds, with many professional and personal experiences and many perspectives. And we work together each year to decide how we can make the greatest impact with our grants, based on many hours of research, site visits and discussions. We are Many Hands and many hearts."
GRANTEE NEWS ROUND-UP
2022 Partner Grantee CAAB is one of four organizations nationwide to have received a 2022 Community Outreach Collaborator Award from the Internal Revenue Service. The CAAB team (above/left) was honored for raising awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit as part of its work to close the racial wealth gap in Washington, DC.
2020 Impact Grantee Nourish Now held a ribbon cutting at its new warehouse in May. The Rockville facility can house five times as much food as the organization's original space. Nourish Now, which has collected and distributed 14 million pounds of food since 2011, expects to be fully operational in the new location in July.
Kari Galloway is retiring at the end of June after 17 years as executive director of 2018 Impact Grantee Friends of Guest House. Guest House is Virginia's largest incarceration-to-community reentry program for women and has served more than 4,000 women since 1974. Sonja Allen (above/right), who has served as director of operations for four years, will take the helm on July 1.
Dr. Jennifer Cartland has been appointed executive director of 2016 Impact Grantee Reach Inc., after serving as interim executive director since December. A teacher and principal with DC Public Schools for more than 20 years, Dr. Cartland has held leadership roles at a number of education- and youth-focused nonprofits. Reach Inc. is a highly successful out-of-school program that hires DCPS teens to tutor elementary school students in reading, creating academic benefits for all.
