See You February 5th at WVOC 2022 in Snowmass, Colorado!
WVOC logo
Dear VOS Family,

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and on behalf of the VOS Board of Directors I want to wish everyone a 2022 that is full of health, laughter, and positive things for everyone. We are all due and we all need it!

As we celebrate the new year and move into the month of January, we are finally less than a month away from the 2022 WVOC in beautiful Snowmass, Colorado!

I know that there has been a lot of concern in the past few weeks with the significant increase in cases related to the new Omicron variant; I have to tell everyone that your Board of Directors, WVOC planning committee and the Wolf Pack have spent countless emails, texts and Zoom meetings discussing all the logistics regarding the challenges that we are unfortunately starting to get used to as we enter our second year living in this pandemic. Taking into consideration the current CDC, Pitkin County, and hotel/Snowmass guidelines, we are thrilled to communicate that we are continuing with our plans to have an IN-PERSON CONFERENCE! ðŸ˜Š!

For this reason and to keep everyone safe, I feel very strongly that as the family that we are, we need to do everything to protect one another. For this reason, we are continuing with our proof of COVID vaccine requirement for those 12 years of age and older attending our meeting (if you are coming with children 5 years or older and you have them vaccinated, you are a star!!!); for those with a medical exemption we are asking for a negative PCR taken within 72 hours of arrival to Snowmass. We also are asking, although we are not making it mandatory, that if you qualify for a booster shot, please take it as the current CDC data has shown a significant level of protection and/or a significant mitigation of clinical signs in the face of the new Omicron variant. Please if you qualify for a booster, take it! I know that this might continue to be a source of irritation for some in our community, but our number one priority is to maintain such community and keep their loved ones healthy. We will keep monitoring closely how things continue to evolve nationally, internationally and in the Pitkin County region, and will be keeping everyone updated of any developments as we inch closer to our conference. For those of you coming from abroad, the United States is requiring all foreign nationals to be vaccinated and have proof of a negative PCR within 24 hours of departure from your home airport. As things are constantly changing with regards to entry requirements, please be sure to visit the CDC International Travel websiteAlso, be sure to visit the VOS webpage (www.vosdvm.org) often and of course feel free to email Heidi (secretary@vosdvm.org) if you have any questions.

Remember that registration to the WVOC conference is still open through our webpage portalDon’t miss out — register now if you have not already! We assure you that we will do everything possible for everyone to have a wonderful and safe conference. Our lodging portal has closed. If you should require lodging, please call the hotels' central reservations line at +1 866-716-8108.

To finish up, as my time as president of the VOS is coming to an end, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude to all of you for allowing me this immense honor to serve in this capacity for this great organization. Yes, it has been a lot of work, but I have to say that it has been one of the most rewarding jobs that I have had the opportunity to experience. Of course, there is no way that I would have been able to do anything really without the support and endless dedication of our amazing Heidi DeCamp, Patty Moyer, the entire Board of Directors, the WVOC planning committee, and the Wolf Pack. As members of VOS, you should all feel very proud to have this amazing group of people working for you. I also want to suggest to any of you who are active members and want to get actively involved in the VOS to reach out and let us know. The VOS is always looking for good people like you that want to help make a difference in advancing veterinary orthopedics. Be bold, get involved and make a difference!
José Garcia-Lopez
Thank you again for this great honor. I can’t say enough how much I am looking forward to February 5th to see all of you once again in Snowmass! See you all soon!

Sincerely,

José M. García-López, VMD, DACVS, DACVSMR
