“For truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain “Move from here to there,” and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17:20
This January, as part of our Stewardship worship series Greater Than, we are taking time in each worship service to ask you one question that will help our leadership team continue to chart a path forward as a church in 2022. Your feedback on these questions is critical as we create a community for worship, spiritual formation, and missions that reaches many people. Last week, Pastor Woo kicked off our series by reminding us that when it comes to living in community with one another, focusing on “We” rather than “Me” is how a community ultimately thrives. It is the first principle of good stewardship as a church community. This Sunday, we are exploring the following idea:
Investment>Quick Fix
Making a decision to invest – whatever it is: time, energy, and effort – even if we don’t see substantial change right away is usually greater than when we make a quick-fix decision simply to check something off our list.
Sometimes when we are presented with a challenge, we are tempted to go with the “quick-fix” because we are short on time, patience, or know-how. But whether the challenge we face is investing in our own spiritual growth, tending to the needs of our family, solving a problem at work, or charting our direction as a church post-pandemic, investing deeply in the work it takes to learn, change, and grow will always get us further than when we ignore what is in front of us or try to gloss over it quickly.
It reminds me of the passage from Matthew 17: An investment – even a small one sown in faith – can earn dividends, if we make the effort in the first place.

Are there areas of our church’s ministry that we’ve applied “quick-fixes” to that really need a greater investment of time and attention to grow?
Today, God is inviting us to see that the investments we choose to make now have a direct impact on who we become.
