The emphasis of his expertise has been in the field of fluvial and coastal geomorphology for restoration and hazard-risk management. The focus of his expertise is with gravel bed river processes and response to disturbances and how morphologic processes relate to flood hazard management and aquatic ecology; however, his broad experience includes hill-slope processes, forestry management, and coastal shoreline processes and management. He has authored several geomorphology-based research articles and studies that have furthered the scientific knowledge and understanding of the region.  He regularly performs analyses for channel migration, shoreline erosion and stabilization, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, hazard and risk, restoration alternatives, and sediment transport as they relate to hydro-electric, flood, habitat, timber and infrastructure management issues and regulatory review. Mr. Pittman is also an avid sailor and explorer of the Salish Sea.
