Books on Tap: Billy Baker

The Library's new author series, Books on Tap, kicks off with Billy Baker, an award-winning local writer of the hilarious, moving memoir, We Need to Hang Out: A Memoir of Making Friends, at Minglewood Harborside, located at 25 Rogers Street, Gloucester.
Appetizers will be provided for attendees, and drinks and food will be available for purchase.

The Life Story of the Piping Plover - Kim Smith

From courtship to nesting to fledging, every aspect of the Piping Plover's life story is presented. Kim will also cover the current status of the bird’s population, where Piping Plovers spend the winter, and how communities can work together to help Piping Plovers survive even the busiest of beaches. Through Kim Smith’s photo journal work on the threatened Piping Plover, we gain a better understanding of how best to help this tiniest, but most resilient, of shorebirds as it breeds and migrates along the Atlantic Coast.

The Gloucester Genealogy Club will have its first meeting on Saturday, May 21 from 10 am - 12 pm. Local History Librarian Julie Travers will walk you through the very first steps for beginning your genealogy search using online resources available through the library. After a tutorial, you will be able to practice creating a family tree chart of your own. Beginners and experts are welcome to attend, as there will be time for sharing your own research after the tutorial. Bring your own computer if possible but we will supply if you need one.
The Gloucester Genealogy Club's monthly meetings will consist of tutorials, how-to's, and special presentations and events by expert genealogists. Keep an eye out for future meetings.

5.Celebrate Gloucester's Heritage | |
The Gloucester Timeline:
A Multimedia History of Cape Ann
Gloucester’s 400+ Committee is seeking qualified volunteers to work on one of its signature projects- The Gloucester Timeline: A Multimedia History of Cape Ann.
Local archivists, historians, writers, and artists are all being asked to contribute to an interactive, multimedia timeline that will be shared and stored on the web for 2023 and beyond. This wonderful research tool will contain images, videos, and audio recordings along with written descriptions of key events and notable personalities in Cape Ann's history. Gloucester 400+, Sawyer Free Library, Cape Ann Museum, and Gloucester City Archives are all supporting this effort but much more help is required. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks:
- Historical research
- Short, descriptive writing
- Fact-checking
- Data input
