Santa Claus Travels Through San Gabriel

December 20 through December 23


Santa Claus is coming to town! Beginning Tuesday, December 20 through Friday, December 23, Santa will be traveling through the City of San Gabriel over four consecutive nights from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., escorted by San Gabriel firefighters and the San Gabriel Police Department aboard the antique 1957 Mack fire engine. 


Below are the dates and areas that Santa Claus will be visiting each night:

  

  • Tuesday, December 20 - Southwest (south of the railroad tracks to the I-10 freeway and from Del Mar Avenue, west to New Avenue)


  • Wednesday, December 21 - Southeast (south of the railroad tracks to the I-10 freeway and from Del Mar Avenue, east to Charlotte Avenue)


  • Thursday, December 22 - Northwest (north of the railroad tracks to Longden Avenue and from Del Mar Avenue, west to Alhambra Road)


  • Friday, December 23 - Northeast (north of the railroad tracks to Longden Avenue and from Del Mar Avenue, east to Muscatel Avenue)


New this year is a real-time Santa tracker, which will share Santa's location while he is traveling through the city streets.

Winter Recreation Guide Is Now Available


The Winter Recreation Guide is now available. The guide includes information about art and recreation programs, upcoming events, city facilities, and the listing of recreation classes.


Registrations for classes begin on December 19. To register for classes, please visit SGPRD.org.

Send a Letter to Santa Claus by This Friday


Little ones can write a letter to Santa Claus, sharing a little something about themselves and how they’ve been good all year. A letter template is available for your convenience.

Letters must be postmarked by Friday, December 9. Letters can also be emailed to AFranquez@sgch.org.

Apply for the Planning and HEAR Commissions

 

Now through December 31, 2022, the City of San Gabriel is accepting applications for volunteer positions to serve on the city's Planning and HEAR Commissions. For more information or to apply, please visit SanGabrielCity.com/Commissions.


Planning Commission

Positions available: 1

*Term ends May 31, 2023*

 

The Planning Commission consists of five members who consider applications for zone changes, subdivisions, variances, development plans and conditional use permits, in addition to other special applications. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council concerning amendments to the General Plan, land use and zoning standards.


HEAR Commission

Positions available: 3

*Two-year term begins February 1, 2023 and ends January 31, 2025*


The HEAR Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council and reports directly to the City Council to assess and recommend policies, procedures and activities in the City government to advance the Commission’s purpose. The purpose of the HEAR Commission is to advance and advocate for equity, access, diversity, social justice, safety, mutual appreciation, increased cultural competency, positive inter-group relations and respect for all members of the San Gabriel community.

 

Holiday Trash Collection


Athens Services will not be providing any residential or commercial trash/recycling pick-up services on Monday, December 26. Instead, addresses scheduled for those pick-up days will get their bins collected on Tuesday, December 27.

Holiday Overnight Parking



Overnight parking will not be enforced on the following nights: 


  • December 24 beginning at 2 a.m. through December 26 at 6 a.m.
  • December 30 beginning at 2 a.m. through January 1, 2023 at 6 a.m.


  • Senior Movie Day - Monday, December 12 at Adult Recreation Center
  • Santa Travels Through San Gabriel - Tuesday, December 20 through Friday, December 23
