  1. Visit the information booth to swipe your EBT card for the amount you want to spend.
  2. Receive vouchers for the amount you swiped PLUS extra vouchers to match that amount (limits apply).
  3. Take your vouchers and shop!

College Students! The COVID-19 student eligibility exemptions are coming to an end. What happens next?

Students who currently get CalFresh: Beginning July 2023, students must meet a permanent exemption. Students already approved for CalFresh under one of the temporary student exemptions do not need to do anything to keep their benefits until their next recertification. At their next recertification, students will need to meet the criteria for one of the permanent student exemptions. If a student meets a permanent exemption, they may still be eligible for CalFresh.

Students newly applying for CalFresh: Beginning June 10, 2023, students newly applying for CalFresh will have to meet one of the permanent student exemptions to be eligible for CalFresh.

Learn more at vchsa.org/calfresh.

*Wage increase for IHSS Registry Providers to $17.75 per hour is effective July 1, 2023.

June Is ...

⚠️ National Safety Month ⚠️

With National Safety Month throughout the month of June, this a great opportunity to remind us of what we can all do to save lives and prevent injuries. And weekends are a perfect time to check in with family members and make a plan. Working together to prepare for an emergency helps reduce anxiety when emergency strikes. Go to readyventuracounty.org/plan and make your plan today. Sign up for local alerts at vcalert.org.

June is Pride Month, marking a time of hope, progress, and promise for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) Americans across the country, reaffirming that no one should face discrimination or harassment because of who they are or whom they love. Take the pledge to speak up against hate and intolerance whenever and wherever you see it. For information about the County’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion efforts, visit www.ventura.org/county-executive-office/dei.

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. We all deserve to lead happy and healthy lives free from abuse as we age, yet older people are mistreated more often than we think. Take action to raise awareness toward prevention on this important social justice issue!

Get involved in creating a stronger society that safeguards our communities and prevents abuse. The more communities we engage, the more people we have who can make a difference for older and younger communities alike!

If you have concerns about an older adult or an adult with disabilities in Ventura County, please contact our hotline 24/7 at 805-654-3200 or go online to reporttoaps.org to make a confidential report. For more information on elder abuse prevention, visit vchsa.org/aps.

Be honorable ... Protect the vulnerable.

As the newest federal holiday, Juneteenth is the celebration of the day, June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Lincoln more than 2 years earlier to declare all enslaved persons free, was finally enforced in Galveston, Texas, where slave owners in Confederate states had migrated with over 150,000 enslaved persons.

The Human Services Agency offices will be closed on Monday, June 19, 2023, to set aside this day to celebrate human freedom, reflect on the continued societal impacts of slavery and racial injustice, and recommit to identifying and addressing inequities and disparities within our institutions.
