JAG-K Diversity Equity and Inclusion Leader Wins Scholarship to National Conference
JAG-K Regional Manager Marlisha Kearney was recently named a recipient of the Jordan M. Roberge Memorial Scholarship to attend the Forum on Workforce Inclusion hosted annually by Augsburg University in Minnesota.

The virtual conference, “Solving for X: Tackling Inequities in a World of Unknowns,” allowed Kearney to learn best practices from experts in employment trends from around the country. She said she gained resources and made connections that will help her in her position as facilitator of a diversity, equity and inclusion group within JAG-K.

“Diversity is really a hot-button topic right now, but not everyone uses the term in the same way,” Kearney said. “The Forum on Workforce Inclusion does a great job of helping you understand the issues of diversity in the workforce.”

Kearney said JAG-K is doing a good job of preparing a diverse group of students to participate in the workforce, but she admitted it can always do more.

“We are giving our students opportunities to learn about a lot of opportunities and workplaces that do not look like them or might not be what they’re familiar with. JAG-K makes them a part of a large community and gives them diverse perspectives.

“The JAG-K working group is building a resource toolbox for specialists to help students navigate that diverse workforce. As they graduate, we want them to be able to work among their peers and to understand others.”

Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt visited Kiowa County High School later in the month to present the grand prize, another $5,000 scholarship.

"I consider this one of my greatest accomplishments in high school," Martinez said. "I’m excited to continue learning in college. I am so thankful for this opportunity!"
