SAFETY TIPS FOR NIGHTTIME DRIVING
Driving at night can be tricky—primarily through neighborhoods or dimly lit landscapes here in the foothills and much of rural Colorado—so it's important to keep in mind a few basic guidelines to make sure you and your vehicle both are well-prepared for the drive. Consider the following suggestions to help get you to your destination safely.
Ensure headlights are aimed properly. If you think your headlights are casting light too far above or below your line of vision on the road, you may need to adjust their aim. You can do this by following instructions in your vehicle owner's manual or seeking help from a vehicle maintenance professional.
Dim dashboard lights. Most vehicle makes and models come with a dimmer for the instrument panel. Make sure it's set to the lowest brightness to limit distraction. Also, remember to turn off overhead or visor lights while driving, which also can limit visibility at night.
Don't wear tinted glasses. Yellow lenses sold to enhance nighttime driving could decrease visibility instead of amplifying colors and objects. If you wear prescription lenses, opt for an anti-reflective coating, and clean them thoroughly and frequently to optimize effectiveness at night.
Learn how to spot animals and objects. While driving at night, look for wildlife creatures' eyes, which can easily be spotted as pairs of glowing retinas. Any animal's eyes—like deer—typically will reflect the light from your headlights long before their true shapes come into view.
Don't focus on headlights in oncoming traffic. Keep your eyes on the road in front of you and avoid looking into the headlights of oncoming traffic—especially if you notice a car using the high-beam headlight setting. If the headlights on the car behind you cause a glare in your rearview mirror, adjust the mirror.
Clean your windshield. Use a clean microfiber cloth or newspaper to clean the windshield—inside and out. Make sure the windshield is streak- and smudge-free before driving at night and try to avoid wiping window condensation with your hands. Fingerprints and oils from your skin can cause streaks that limit visibility in the dark.
Know when to use your fog lights. Many vehicles come equipped with fog lights, typically located underneath the front headlights and aimed low, where fog usually appears on the road. Fog lights also can be helpful on a particularly dark road to further illuminate your path.
Adjust your exterior mirrors. Pointing your side-view mirrors down slightly can help reduce glare from other driver's headlights and allow you to see by tipping your head forward a few inches.
Have your eyes checked. Your eyes' ability to keep moving and scan the landscape rather than solely focus on one spot is imperative for successful nighttime driving. Visit your eye doctor for regular checkups to determine whether prescription lenses could help you see better at night.

STAY CONNECTED WITH WASTE CONNECTIONS
As many of you know, we have had some challenges with our trash removal service these past few months. From weather-related issues to equipment failures to parking issues with construction, it has been challenging for everyone – our residents, our team, and for Waste Connections.
We have been working with the leadership team at Waste Connections and are meeting with them every week to discuss service issues and resident concerns. In addition, we have been working with Waste Connections to provide more proactive communication to you on service dates, pick-ups, service delays, or interruptions. We want to tell you about two communication tools in addition to email blasts that our office sends out when we are notified of service issues.
Waste Connections APP
Available on both iOS and Android phones, the WasteConnect app shows you your pick-up schedule, will send notifications of holidays or service delays/interruptions and is a “waste wizard” to help you identify if something is trash or recycling.
Opt-In for Phone Calls
Waste Connections also has an emergency phone call system that can notify residents in the event of a delay or interruption in service. We want to protect your personal data, so instead of providing them with a list of phone numbers, we are asking that you complete this simple survey with your name, address, and phone number to opt into these phone calls. We will be asking all new owners for permission to provide their numbers as well.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work with Waste Connections to provide better service and more proactive communication. Our work doesn’t stop here; this is an ongoing process. We will continue to update you in the coming months.

Filing 3A Streetlights on Mount Ouray are back up and running. We are still waiting on parts for the balance of 3A and 3B and anticipate having those completed by May 1.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Town Hall this past Wednesday. We are excited to begin hosting these monthly with our next Town Hall on April 19, 2023.
Some of the main concerns brought up were related to street sweeping in the areas with home construction active, as well as cleaning the walking paths in these areas. We are engaging our Builder Standards team to work with the Builders in active construction zones to begin their spring sweeps. We also heard about delays with solar panel hook-up. We’re engaging our solar partners and Xcel to investigate the delays owners are experiencing with inspections and hooking up to the Xcel power grid.
