Good Sam

Ministry Fair &

Open House

Continuing This Sunday, August 27 @ 9:30am

Have you ever wondered about all the different Ministries at Good Sam? Last week, we began learning more about all the ways that we serve each other, our community, and the world...and this week, we'll continue to learn more about our various ministries.

At 9:30 am, the coordinators of many of our ministries will be on hand for Part II of the Ministry Fair. Last Sunday, we focused on Worship and Formation. Today, we will focus on the on prayer, giving, and serving ministries. Sign-up sheets for will be available for today's highlighted ministries as well as last week's ministries.

The Guide to Participation is available to assist you as you prayerfully consider putting your talents to work in our community. If you didn’t get a copy, there should be a few floating around in Henslee Hall. The guide is also available online under the Ministry Fair article in the News & Events section of our website. See the article below.

In addition to the Ministry Fair upstairs, an Open House will take place downstairs for children & youth focusing on programs offered for those age groups as well as information about formation/Sunday School for the year.

THE GUIDE TO PARTICIPATION

ONLINE LINK TO THE GUIDE

Make sure you pick up a copy of the GUIDE TO PARTICIPATION ON SUNDAY! It is our hope that this guide will help you as you discern what ministries you engage in this coming program year. This newly revised guide is divided into two parts, reflecting the two Sundays of the Ministry Fair. Part one focuses on Worship & Formation; part two focuses on Building & Grounds, Community Care, Fellowship, Finance & Outreach.

Youth Group Kick-off Lunch

There will be a Youth Lunch for our 6-12th graders on Sunday, August 27 after the late service. We will gather from 11:45 am until 1:15 pm.

Lunch & activities provided! Come and join us for a casual time to reconnect. If you didn't get a chance to RSVP to Sinead but would like to join in anyway, please do!

Tuesday Women's Bible Study

Tuesday, Sept. 5

5:45pm @ Good Sam

Facilitated by Mother Elizabeth, this group meets on Tuesdays at 5:45pm via Zoom - except for the first Tuesday of the month when we meet in person in Henslee Hall.

Our first meeting will be in-person at Good Sam on Tuesday, September 5, at 5:45pm. Sign up during the Ministry Fair if you are interested. Your name and email address will be added to our contact list so we can keep you informed about this study group.

Book Group for September

We will be meeting Thursday,Sept. 7 at 6:00 PM, in Henslee Hall.

The book we are reading is Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. This remarkable story is about a 12-year-old boy named Edward, who miraculously survives a plane crash that takes the lives of all other passengers, including his entire family. After this heartbreaking

ordeal, he has to find the resilience to create a new life for himself.

The book for October, Coroner's Dance has been written by one of our parishioners, Dr. Greg Phelps. He will be attending the meeting, and we are having a potluck dinner to celebrate this special occasion.

  • November: He Called Me Sister by Suzanne Craig Robinson (subject to review - this may change)
  • December: I Am, I Am, Am by Maggie O'Farrell
  • January: Passengers by Thomas Foxworth (brother of member Merry Foxworth) and Michael Laurence.

Please bring what you'd like to eat and drink to the meeting. New members are always welcome, even if they don't attend Good Sam! If you have any questions, please call Kathy Gray at 423-379-0091 or email [email protected].

Formation & Sunday School this Fall

All Sunday School Classes begin on September 10 at 9:30am. In addition to Rotation Sunday School for children and our Youth Formation class for 6-12th graders, we have several options for adults! Coffee & Conversation is a self-led group is open to parents and guardians of children or youth, who would like to gather to discuss faith, life, and parenting. This class meets in the youth suite downstairs.

The Lectionary Class takes a closer look through insightful discussion of that Sunday’s lectionary readings. This class is lay-led and meets in the library. The Adult Henslee Hall Class will begin a 4-week series on Hospitality facilitated by Mother Elizabeth and the Reverend Mary Davis. And finally, Fr. Cal will offer a 4-week Newcomer Class in Henslee Hall. Check out the full descriptions of all these classes in the Guide to Participation.
