Earlier this month, firewood bank leaders and enthusiasts came together to participate in the 2nd National Wood Bank Summit, focused on "Strengthening Our Network of Firewood Bank Organizations."

Firewood Bank Assistance Program Update

AGH still does not know if there will be another year of grant funding available for firewood banks. Once we do know, we will publish the application opening date on firewoodbanks.org and in this newsletter.

You can either download the PDFs and print them on your own or request that printed materials be mailed to you. These are great resources to hand out to those receiving firewood from your wood bank.

Diné Bá'ádeit'į́- For the People

Diné Bá'ádeit'į́- For the People posted about their experience with handling a State of Emergency on March 13th:


"We got 40 cords of processed wood delivered in 2 days. Have a bad tire and a check engine light, but it was all done safely. Glad we were able to help this community. "


Diné Bá'ádeit'į́- For the People is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides wood to warm the homes of elders living on the Navajo and Hopi Nations. It's important for them to use the teaching of their elders to support their work : T’áá hwó’ ají t’éego (meaning, "It is up to you").

Wood Thinned from Forests Prevents Wildfires and Heats Native American Homes



“Thinning the forests can help reduce the risk, of wildfires, but discarding the logs was an issue - until the partnership with the tribes started. Now the foundation provides wood to 8 tribes, including the Navajo, Ute and Washoe, across Northern Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, and Idaho."

‘Wood Warms’ Program (VT) Delivers 80 cords This Winter


The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation’s Wood Warms Program says it has donated 80 cords of wood to local wood banks this winter and expects to donate 200 more in the next two years."

"The wood comes from sustainable harvests in Mt. Mansfield and Camel’s Hump State Forests."
