SFD Performing Arts Department Presents Mary Poppins

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft. We hope you will join the cast and crew for this exciting show on March 31, April 1 and April 2 in the St. Francis DeSales High School Little Theater!

Stallions in the Spotlight

Junior Andrea Tlahuel Flores will attend the Brown University's Pre-College Program this summer for 3 weeks, focusing on business courses. She was offered a $6,000 Sibley Scholarship to use toward the cost of the program. The program is meant to give high schoolers a sense of college life by meeting new people from around the country while attending college level courses. Classmate Olivia Sanabria was accepted to the OSU Summer Program, CREATES-HS. This lab research focused program is a paid internship through the James Caner Research Hospital.

SFD juniors Jack Burgan, Brendan Ballard, Lucy Wills, Rachael Schroeder and Isabella Barry were among the student leaders from 10 Salesian High Schools across the U.S. who were selected to participate in a Salesian Leadership Retreat (SLR) in NY. The SLR encourages all participants to develop their Salesian leadership skills and be renewed in their efforts to be of service and effect positive change in their works, among their peers, and in the world. Theology teachers Mrs. Mitevski and Sr. Guerline accompanied the students.

The fifty-third Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition will open on Sunday, April 23rd at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. This juried exhibition is comprised of creative expressions in the visual arts created by outstanding and talented students from Ohio's high schools. The selection of 326 works of art were judged by eight jurors who are college educators and artists. They reviewed almost 3,000 works of art sent from the winners of fifteen regions throughout Ohio. 8,300 art entries were submitted to these regions, and then narrowed down for the state judging. We are proud to announce that senior Anna Schneider had two pieces selected into the state show including a video and her mixed media self portrait, and senior Alaina Jacobs who had her photograph selected for the state show!

Spiritual Reflection

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the healing power of your Son was made manifest through signs and wonders during his earthly ministry. Open our eyes to the ways of grace at work among us in these Lenten days. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
