Good Sam Social Lights Lunch Reminder - PLEASE RSVP BY SEPT. 1

Bonnie Honaker is the Good Sam Social Lights coordinator and she is happy to report that their numbers are growing! But with this wonderful news comes a little responsibility for you - those of you who attend the weekly after-church lunches. - This week particularly, if you plan to join us at The Chop House, PLEASE RSVP Bonnie at [email protected] and let her know you plan to attend. Being a holiday weekend, making a reservation is a must! So, please let her know if you plan to have lunch with the group this Sunday, Sept. 3 no later than TOMORROW, Friday, September 1.

ALSO - since the Social Lights numbers are growing, it is very helpful for you to email Bonnie no later than Friday each week preceding the Sunday lunch and let her know if you'll be attending the lunch that week. Again, Bonnie's email is [email protected].

Tuesday Women's Bible Study

Tuesday, Sept. 5

5:45pm @ Good Sam

Facilitated by Mother Elizabeth, this group meets on Tuesdays at 5:45pm via Zoom - except for the first Tuesday of the month when we meet in person in Henslee Hall.

Our first meeting will be in-person at Good Sam on Tuesday, September 5, at 5:45pm.

The Sign-Up sheets from the Ministry Fair are still in Henslee Hall if you are interested in getting the Women's Bible Group email notifications. Your name and email address will be added to our contact list so we can keep you informed about this study group.

Book Group for September

We will be meeting Thursday,Sept. 7 at 6:00 PM, in Henslee Hall.

The book we are reading is Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. This remarkable story is about a 12-year-old boy named Edward, who miraculously survives a plane crash that takes the lives of all other passengers, including his entire family. After this heartbreaking

ordeal, he has to find the resilience to create a new life for himself.

Please bring what you'd like to eat and drink to the meeting. New members are always welcome, even if they don't attend Good Sam! If you have any questions, please call Kathy Gray at 423-379-0091 or email [email protected].

Do You Use The Church Lift? (elevator)

If you use the lift (elevator) at Good Sam, there will be a brief "how to use" training on Sunday, September 10 between the services. Please join us if you need to use the lift but are having difficulty operating it. Meet Steve Campbell downstairs where the Lift is located for the training, if the Henslee Hall Class has begun.

Formation & Sunday School this Fall

NOTE: All Sunday School Classes begin on September 10 at 9:30am with the exception of the Adult Lectionary Class, which will begin on September 24.

In addition to Rotation Sunday School for children and our Youth Formation class for 6-12th graders, we have several options for adults! Coffee & Conversation is a self-led group is open to parents and guardians of children or youth, who would like to gather to discuss faith, life, and parenting. This class meets in the youth suite downstairs.

The Lectionary Class takes a closer look through insightful discussion of that Sunday’s lectionary readings. This class is lay-led and meets in the library. The Adult Henslee Hall Class will begin a 4-week series on Hospitality facilitated by Mother Elizabeth and the Reverend Mary Davis. And finally, Fr. Cal will offer a 4-week Newcomer Class in Henslee Hall. Check out the full descriptions of all these classes in the Guide to Participation.

UPDATE!

Family Promise Pasta and Bluegrass Event

Thank you for your support of the Past and Bluegrass Event that benefit for Family Promise. We had several folks donate cookies/bars for the bake sale and several donated cakes/breads for the silent auction.

There were over 225 people in attendance and 12 pastas to sample. Karen Sproles made our pasta and it earned the Judges Choice award! The Blue Grass band was fun and they even had an Icee truck to cleanse your palate for better tasting. This is a wonderful way to support Family Promise. I hope next year we can have a couple of Good Sam tables.

-Ann Backus

Cash in the Plate

The Cash In The Plate for this coming Sunday goes to Remote Area Medical (RAM).

Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a locally based provider of free pop-up clinics. Their mission is to prevent pain and alleviate suffering by providing free dental, vision and medical services to underserved and uninsured individuals. Since RAM was founded in 1985, over 196,000 volunteers - comprised of professional practitioners, as well as general support staff - have treated more than 900,000 individuals delivering more than $189.5 million worth of free healthcare services.

You can make an online cash plate gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. Please put "RAM" in the memo line.
