More Walks
Dear Neighbors,

  • I will be out on the 1800 block of N. Dayton tonight at 8:00 p.m.
  • On Saturday, I'll be walking from Clark and Dickens to Clark and Fullerton at 8:30 p.m.
  • On Sunday, I'll be walking up Lincoln Avenue from Lincoln and Webster to Lincoln and Fullerton at 9:00 p.m.

Please join me on any of these walks. I'm going to walk each night (unless the weather is bad) on the blocks where crimes have occurred lately.

Help stand up for our neighborhood by going out for a few minutes and walking on your block. Organize a block email chain and see who will join you! If you'd like me to come and I can, I will. Just email yourvoice@ward43.org.

Thanks to the over 50 neighbors who joined me on our safety walk in the 2100 Block of N. Fremont last night at Nine p.m. (below). We will not be driven by fear from walking in our neighborhood.

We got quite a bit of press (because the press reads our newsletter, too). But the press is not the point - you are. Here's the coverage on Fox and NBC.
Write to Our Public Officials

Every citizen and public official needs to work together to stop crime. While CPD does great work, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office and Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Evans need to increase their efforts to hold criminals accountable.

All of our neighborhood organizations are joining together with our office to mount a postcard writing campaign to seek accountability. You can pick up postcards now at:

  • 43rd Ward Office, 2523 N Halsted (9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.)
  • Old Town Triangle Association Office, 1763 N. North Park
  • Corcoran's Grill & Pub, 1615 N Wells Street
  • Armitage Direct, 925 W Armitage Avenue (entrance on Bissell)
  • Starbucks, 210 W North Avenue
  • Lakeshore Sport and Fitness, 1320 W. Fullerton

More locations soon! Postcards are pre-addressed. Please write about your personal experience with crime and why the city needs the support of our State's Attorney and judicial system with appropriate prosecutions, sentences and bail. Click here for sample postcard language, and more information about the campaign.

As we have been reporting, the City Council needs to hear our voices to keep our neighborhood together. To sign up for public comment for the hearings, please keep reading.

Anyone wishing to comment at a City Council committee meeting conducted by videoconference will need to call (312) 744-6800 in advance of the meeting and leave a voice message with their name and telephone number. Requests to comment will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. two business days before the scheduled meeting until 9:00 a.m. the business day before the scheduled meeting. Any individual wishing to participate must be available at the scheduled start time of the committee meeting and have access to a touch-tone telephone. More about what to expect here.

Please note that City Council Rule 58E limits the public comment period to 30 minutes overall, with each participant limited to three minutes (both subject to modification in the reasonable, non-discriminatory discretion of the Committee chairman), so there is no assurance that every person who calls will have the opportunity to speak.
