This Sunday, November 18 travelers to South Africa on our summer music trip and to Washington, D.C., on our October “History of Oppression” tour will share their insights and reflections with us.

Join them at 12:30 p.m. in Room 4G as they bring to life for us their experiences from these powerful trips.

Those interested in traveling with us in 2019 are invited to consider our trips to Cuba (May 6–15, 2019) and Guatemala (August 4–11, 2019). Learn more or apply online. Applications are due by January 15.

Rocky Supinger and Matt Helms will be teaching the second session in their monthly class “ Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Bible ” this Sunday, November 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 5G. Whether you were with them in October or not, come join them for a mix of biblical storytelling, historical context, literary analysis, and small-group discussion, as we bring the biblical text to life and wrestle with what it means for us today.

Then at 11:00 a.m. this Sunday, Lucy Forster-Smith will begin a four-week class on “Longing for God: Faith Development Over a Lifetime.” (This class, which meets in Room 5G, will not be held next weekend, November 25 but will resume again on December 2.) T his class invites us to look more closely at how our deepest questions, our placed trusts, our faith moves like a rushing river and how our spiritual growth moves through stages.

Our lives are full of the stories of experiences we have had and the events that make us who we are. Learning to embrace, tell, and sometimes reframe these stories can be important to our mental health and wellness, so beginning Wednesday evening, November 28, the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being will be offering a three-session series on Telling Your Story: Storytelling for Wellness. Register (required) online.

Our information channels are full of election analysis. What do we do with that, and where do we go from here?

How, for instance, can we rebuild Americans’ faith in mediating institutions such as political parties, the media, and interest groups?

How might we call for civility and make space for strong disagreement?

Join us on Thursday evening, November 29 as we host one of our Michigan Avenue Forums to explore these questions with Robert Boatright. Dr. Boatright will bring his presentation “The Impact of the 2018 Election: Beachcombing after the Wave” and share insights from his work as professor of political science at Clark University and Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse.
