Current Adult Sunday School Offerings:
Women of Faith: Fellowship Hall, Room 104
Lectionary Discussion Group: Fellowship Hall
Men's Class I: Old Session Room of second floor in Sanctuary
Men's Class II Bible Study: The Annex
Sunday School is held at 9:45 am each Sunday before the worship service.
| |
Join us in the Fellowship Hall for an informal discussion on the lectionary passages for the day during the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45). All you need to bring is your curious mind, open heart, and a willingness to delve into what the scriptures might have for us. No preparation required, and you can drop in any given Sunday without losing the thread. If you’ve got a favorite translation of the Bible, bring it. If not, don’t worry. We’ll have fun and learn from each other as listen for the Spirit in each other’s voices.

For those who are interested, we could possibly plan a trip to see Jesus Christ Superstar. Unfortunately, I will not be attending, so someone else would need to be in charge (scheduling a date, purchasing tickets, arranging transportation, etc). Please let me, or Kate know if you are interested in going.

This past weekend Troop 45 camped at Rainwater Observatory in French Camp, MS, where we put an exclamation point on our recent Astronomy Merit Badge. Rainwater boasts of being "one of the last remaining dark pockets of night sky left in the southeastern United States.” While our nighttime was filled with astronomical programs and star gazing, the day was packed with spring cleaning of the Troop’s trailer, tents, cookware, and stoves. Even after the hard effort there was plenty of time left just to goof around and enjoy being in God’s creation. It was a perfect campout in perfect weather!

Doors of Hope is an outreach program housed in the FPC education building. DOH makes available to single parents with young children temporary housing support, budget management and other life skills training. FPC hosts the Step 2 Dinner the second Tuesday of each month. The dinner provides an opportunity for current clients to sit at table with successful alumni of the program. We thank Jennifer Williams and Melissa Perler for hosting this month. Jo Turner, the DOH social worker, is particularly grateful for FPC’s support, “Thanks for all you do for our Step 2 meetings. I think it helps our ladies to see that someone takes an interest in them as they are so often overlooked.”
Nine Ukrainian refugee families currently have children being treated at St. Jude's Hospital. One is a nine-month-old infant undergoing cancer therapy. These families arrived in Memphis with little more than the clothes on their backs. Target House provides accommodations for families whose children are patients at St. Jude's. Last month members of FPC provided $1,700 in gift cards for the Ukrainian families to purchase clothing, hygiene products, diapers, etc. They are deeply grateful for your prayers and support.

Begun in a closet at First Presbyterian Church in the 1980’s, The Pantry has grown into an effective ecumenical outreach providing thousands of area residents with donated groceries throughout the year. Each June FPC is responsible for staffing the Pantry three days a week from 8-11:00. The Pantry is located on Molly Barr Road next to the Oxford Police Station. On Tuesday's deliveries of food are received and the shelves stocked. On Wednesdays and Thursday's groceries are made available to clients in a drive-through. Eight to ten volunteers are needed each of the three days. Members of Oxford First United Methodist Church will be helping out as well. FPC members— from thirteen years of age through our VIP’s—are invited to volunteer for as many shifts in the month as you would like. Perhaps in 2022 this could by your mission!
