NEWS - November 8, 2021
My new 16" MacBook Pro arrived last week, so I immediately put it to the test. I wanted to see how it compared to my 2013 MacBook Pro, as well as a 2017 27" iMac with some real-world speed tests for media. The results were surprising!

In the news this week:

NAB announced the winners of their third annual "Product of the Year" awards. The show may have been canceled, but technology marches on. The awards recognize significant and promising new products and technologies that were set to be displayed for the first time at the previously canceled 2021 NAB Show.

Last week, I mentioned that FilmLight announced the short list for their upcoming Color Awards. "From over 300 entries, the judging panel has announced a shortlist of 14 remarkable projects in four categories." This week, they posted the list.

OWC announced the first Thunderbolt dual-bay U.2 desktop storage units. These SSD RAIDs deliver speeds up to 2800 MB/second, with up to 16 TB of storage capacity.

Hedge today officially released Postlab full support for Media Composer, a cloud-native solution to enable collaborative remote editing workflows for Avid editors. Postlab serves as an extension to an on-premise Nexis or other Avid-compatible NAS/SAN storage.

Thought for the week. Terrence Curren, former head of Alpha Dogs and a man I respect a great deal, was asked who he felt the long-term NLE winner would be: "I just don't know what the future will bring. In established circles, Avid still reigns supreme because of its superior project sharing. But the future doesn't belong to established circles.”
This week's webinar looks at the New Features in Adobe Software released in the v22 update. This includes significant changes to speech-to-text, simplifying sequences, and the Lumetri color panel. As always, registration is free

Just a reminder that last week's webinar on New Features in Apple Final Cut Pro is available in my store. This includes the new, but awkward, object tracker, along with new effects and features in Motion and Compressor.

It was an interesting week this week. Not only did the new MacBook Pro arrive, but I also got fed-up with the look of my video streaming. While I don't use video for my live webinars, I include a video feed with the download versions. Time for something better! This week, I connected a DSLR camera to my computer. This article describes the gear I used and how it all hooks up.

With its latest v22 release, Adobe made significant improvements to the speech-to-text feature in Premiere. So much so, that I revised my tutorial - a lot.

Most video editors don't like working with audio. But Accusonus released a new audio repair bundle - called ERA 6 - that not only has some very powerful tools, but an automated way to analyze and fix audio problems. In fact, it automatically configures the right combination of plug-ins and settings to fix problems. Here's a review that can relieve your audio headaches.

The US shifts out of daylight savings time, nights are falling earlier. The holidays are getting closer, but there's still time to get work done. All major hardware and software announcements are - most likely - made. Now time to figure out how they all work.

Until next Monday, stay healthy and edit well.
