Annie Home - The Wait
2300 Saturday, July 23

Look carefully in the photo above, just right of center on the headland. That is Annie and I on Red Head with Baccalieu island behind us. Annie has been here with me for the last six days; she flew back home this morning. It was wonderful having her with me for these past days. Waiting for engine parts and repairs has been hard, at times very hard as summer slips by and I fall behind on my schedule. You read about cruisers getting plans interrupted by gear and mechanical failures; passing time and sourcing parts. Having Annie made a huge difference o my own morale as I push the mechanic and the machine shop to move quickly. We did some exploring together, sharing pieces of the Avalon Peninsula. The photo below is the two of us at the "Mouse Hole" (the arch in the rocks in the distance between us). Annie will be back in a few weeks to join me for some cruising.

I think by Monday, I should be able to firm up my sailing schedule. I now have the engine parts here in St. John's and believe the end of this delay is in sight. So, stick with me. More sailing is around the corner.

Tomorrow I want to tell you a bit more about my first trip to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1977. It will help you understand my sense of connection to these places.
