Whether it's a GOD BOX or a GOD CAN, what I know is --"I Can't, God Can"! Just what is a God Box? Well, it is a container in which you put pieces of paper written with things that you are "turning over to God."
WHAT TO USE FOR A GOD BOX: Pretty much any container with a top -- a tissue box, gift box, cigar box, engraved wooden box from a gift shop, or even a coffee can (hence, God Can).
WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR GOD BOX: How many times have you had repeteous thoughts or prayers about something you need help with? Is there something you keep trying to control? Something you give to God and then take back? Well, why not take action by writing that "something" on a piece of paper and physically putting it in a box as a way to demonstrate giving it to God. Let Go and Let God! |

"Came to believe in a Power greater than ourselves could return us to sanity."

Give the Overeaters Anonymous program a chance to
work for you.
This podcast workshop leader discusses each aspect of Step Two, sharing her experience, strength and hope. "Ours is a spiritual program, not a religious one." (p. 13,
The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous
.) Step Two "is a bridge" between Step One and Step Three, and the "hoop you have to jump through is a lot wider than you think
."

Little gems and pearls of wisdom from meetings

Food wasn't my problem -- it was my solution.

Q: HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOUR HIGHER POWER?
JD: It's really hard to put into words. I have a personal relationship with my Higher Power, my God, that has developed over time. Being in OA has accelerated that development. My faith tradition stresses belief in a personal relationship with God but it took my own journey in food addiction to make it a reality for me. I would describe God as peace in my heart. I would add characteristics of a best friend: kind, loving, compassionate, truthful, embracing me just as I am. Many times God is expressed by nature, things turning out better than I could have planned, or through someone in my life "God with skin on". This firm foundation gives me great peace, like everything is going to be okay, that everything is alright as it is. I get a feeling of being provided for with a love I cannot fathom, like the biggest safety net I could imagine. My heart smiles when I ponder the idea of a Higher Power watching over me, holding me very gently with great tenderness, great love and great compassion.
PD: My God has always been kind and loving and because of the gift of OA in my life, He has become my confidant, my courage and my strength.
Q
: WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT HAVING A POWER GREATER THAN YOURSELF?
JD:
The best thing about having a Power greater than myself is knowing in my deepest se
lf that I am not alone on this journey of life. I have a power that can help me with any situation that is presented to me including making food choices each day that frees me to fully live my life in abundance. I believe God wants the best for me and because I have God in my life I truly have nothing to fear.
PD: The best thing about having a Power greater than myself is that I am able to drop my shoulders, close my eyes and open my mind and heart to His direction for my life. I am no longer alone with the weight of the world solidly in my job description.
