Opportunity for Good:
The group Indivisible.org recommends that we all rest up from activism between now and January. And then we all need to ready to make serious efforts in 2022. It is not an exaggeration to say that our democracy is at risk, and we all need to do our part to preserve it. There are many organizations through which there will be opportunities for letter-writing, phone banking and more in order to maintain and restore voting rights for all. In the meantime, between now and New Year’s is a good time to consider end-of-year donations to one or more of the organizations that provide assistance to those of us who are struggling or otherwise marginalized. Some organizations here on the Coast that help our more vulnerable neighbors are Abundant Grace, ALAS, Coastside Hope, Life Moves Coast House, and Senior Coastsiders in Half Moon Bay.
Food for Our Souls:
UUCC First Sunday Service, January 2nd, 11am
The Touchstones Theme for January is Renewal. Jane Thanx from UUCLC will deliver a sermon entitled “Secret Shames” on Sunday, January 2nd at UUCC. How many of us left the religion we grew up in feeling like guilty sinners? Then we came into the open arms of the Unitarian Universalist Community where we strive to see the inherent worth and dignity of every person, including ourselves. Jane is inspired to read a translation of the “Lord’s Prayer” that resonates deep within her and expands upon the idea of forgiving debts and trespasses. She will share with us one of her own secret shames and focus on the need to forgive ourselves and others.

Jane Thanx is a lifelong student of spiritual wisdom, having practiced and studied with Christians, Churches of Self-Realization, Zen Buddhists, and Sufis. She is ordained as an Interfaith Minister in The Church of All [Religions], under the auspices of the Sufi Order International. Currently she is an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County. She is a compassionate nurturer as a mother, a grandmother, a wife, and a dog lover. She began signing Thanx as her last name on her artwork, in gratitude for the Grace that inspires and guides her. Jane is a recent Shared Pulpit graduate from the recent inter-congregational classes, co-sponsored by UUCC and UUFSCC, and taught by Tovis Page and Kathryn Jay.

UUCC Joins UUCLC on Sunday, January 9th, 10am
On Sunday, January 9th, Rev. Kathie McCutcheon presents a sermon entitled
"What Our Hearts Must Bear: Reflections on What Each of Us Must Hold in Our Hearts as We Journey Through Life" at the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County (UUCLC).

Rev. Kathie McCutcheon is a Community Interfaith Minister, Chaplain and Spiritual Director. Her journey with Unitarian Universalism began in 1998 after she discovered UUism shortly following a move to eastern North Carolina from Toronto. While waiting years for permanent resident status, she became an active lay leader and heard the call to ministry. She was ordained in 2010 at The Chaplaincy Institute in Berkley. She is a perpetual student and lives surrounded by paper, books and manila file folders in a house in the woods. She is married and has an adult son and daughter. She loves being a guest minister for several small, lay-led UU congregations in her area.

Pre-service gathering and conversations begin at 9:45am.
Gathering for service and music begin at 10:00am.

Important UUCC Congregational Meeting January 16, 2022
UUCC holds its second Congregational Meeting on January 16th at 11am. First, we will briefly review the progress made since our May 19, 2019, Congregational Meeting. Then we plan to discuss at least three issues: (1) the where and when of Zoom-based, in-person (and "hybrid") services; (2) our approaches to volunteering and to giving; and (3) additional, alternative programming models, like Coffee Hour Sundays, Chalice Circles, Theme-based Small Group Discussions, and so on.

Our Congregational meeting will be held over Zoom and we really need everyone's participation. Please put January 16th at 11am on your calendars.
UUCC All-Music Holiday Fundraiser
for Senior Coastsiders Now on YouTube
UU Coastside Community all-music interfaith service "Turning Towards the Light: A Holiday Fundraiser for Senior Coastsiders" was a resounding success. We had over 70 people attend the service, thanks to coverage in the Half Moon Bay Review and the personal invites sent by our extended community. There were so many high moments from the service that it would be difficult to single one thing out. Because of the outreach to other congregations, we had 10 beautiful pieces donated by other Unitarian Universalist congregations from Lake County, Alameda, and Fremont, and the Coastside Jewish Community.

In case you missed the live concert, or want to watch it again, visit our UUCC YouTube Channel. Since the video was uploaded four days ago, we have over 382 views. And please Like and Subscribe to our channel! (When UUCC's YouTube channel reaches 100 subscribers, we get our own customized url, which will make it easier for people to find us.)

Sandi Winter from Senior Coastsiders reported that as of December 23rd, the music concert had already raised $4,000 dollars from 19 donors. And with corporate matches, she is hopeful we might even reach $6,000 dollars. We will give a final count in the New Year.

And you can still donate! Mail your check to Senior Coastsiders, 925 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, CA, 94019, noting "UUCC fundraiser" in the check memo field.

A big thanks to everyone who contributed to our annual fundraiser. Know that you are our heroes and heroines for contributing to another successful UUCC fundraiser.
