HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE BOARD
  • The LSAW Executive Committee and Board of Directors continue to conduct LSAW business via Zoom video conference during the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest meeting was held in a virtual format on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

  • The Fall Seminar was transitioned to a weekly webinar series that was designed for survey technicians. The webinar series was well attended and LSAW has received positive feedback. All webinars were recorded and the recordings are available to purchase from the LSAW Store.  

  • The 2021 Virtual Conference recordings are currently available for purchase on the LSAW website. These include over 80 hours of recordings that can be purchased as a full set or by individual session.

  • Online registration for the Conference is now open! We are excited to announce that the 2022 Conference is moving forward in-person on March 2nd – 4th at the Hilton in Vancouver, WA. Featured speakers include Jeff Lucas, Kris Kline, and Dave Doyle. Click here for Conference details

  • The LSAW Board of Directors unanimously voted to posthumously award Jim Coan the LSAW Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be presented at a celebration of life event, date to be determined.

  • The LSAW Education Foundation has created the Jim Coan Memorial Scholarship to be awarded annually to an exceptional college student enrolled in a surveying program in the State of Washington with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Members are encouraged to donate to the LSAW Education Foundation to help fund scholarships for land surveying students. Click here to visit the LSAW Education Foundation website

  • The Washington Young Surveyors Network (WA-YSN) is working hard to build their network. LSAW is working with the WA-YSN to determine the logistics of chartering the network as an LSAW Chapter.

  • The 2022 LSAW Officers were elected and are as follows:

  • Yakima Valley Community College and Clark College are looking for instructors for their survey curriculum.

  • The LSAW Board approved the appointment of Carla Meritt as the LSAW NSPS Director. Carla attended the NSPS fall meetings and reported that Curt Sumner has officially announced his retirement. Interviews for his replacement will be taking place and a new NSPS Executive Director will be announced by the end of the year. 


  • Outreach, public awareness, and workforce development have been identified as top priorities for the profession. The LSAW Board of Directors has allocated a budget and appointed Carla Meritt as Chair of the Ad-Hoc Outreach Committee.


  • LSAW members are encouraged to check out Mentoring Mondays, a free weekly virtual discussion group for the profession. 

  • Help build the 2022 Transformation Tool, get out and collect GPS on benchmarks. Tom Barger is coordinating this effort for Washington State. The deadline has been extended.

LSAW in conjunction with the Western Federation of Professional Surveyors (WFPS) is pleased to announce the availability of a new online study course. Approximately 16 hours of videos and a manual to help you prepare to take the Fundamentals of Surveying exam.
