Dear River Forest residents,

Please help us keep children in our community safe by encouraging them to wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. Wearing a helmet reduces the risk of head injuries in the event of an accident by up to 85%! You can view a Village ordinance regarding the use of bicycle helmets in its entirety here. For additional bicycle safety tips, please click here.

This coming Monday marks the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our country. To honor those who lost their lives, you can  visit the 9/11 Memorial Marker located within Memorial Parkway, or participate in the annual charity LemonAid Stand fundraiser from 3-7 p.m. More information on the LemonAid fundraiser can be found in an article below.

Lastly, at this coming Monday’s Village Board meeting, the Board will be voting on a polystyrene ban for restaurants in River Forest, that is meant to reduce the negative effects of styrofoam, which is made of polystyrene, and cannot be recycled. Polystyrene contributes to ozone depletion and creates carcinogenic chemicals in our environment, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. If approved, this ban aims to help reduce negative impacts on our environment and ensure a better quality of life for future generations.

Sincerely,

Cathy Adduci, Village President

Lake & Lathrop Project Update

At the August 28 Village Board meeting, the Village Board approved an amended redevelopment agreement with Sedgwick Properties, regarding the project at Lake & Lathrop. The amendment issues a conditional building permit extension through August 30, 2024, but if the developer does not meet the following conditions by September 15, 2023, the permit may be revoked.

1. Secure viable financing and provide proof to the Village, and resolve pending litigation with Beverly Bank, an affiliate of Wintrust Bank.

2. Pay the Village $98,905.32 for the permit extension fee, and

3. Pay all outstanding property taxes.

Sedgwick Properties has stated it remains confident that residential units will be completed by August 30, 2024. If that deadline is not met, the Village will collect additional permit fees and fines. Read more about the project’s history, status updates and the redevelopment agreement here.
