November 11 is Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is observed in Canada on November 11. We have celebrated this day since the end of WWI. Remembrance Day marks the day on which the hostilities between the Allies and Germany ceased on the Western Front.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month has attained a special significance over time.

Please take a moment to honour the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
Our community was shaken to its core this summer when we were all impacted by the effects of the White Rock Lake fire.

Unfortunately some of our community members who utilize the Killiney Beach water system still do not have potable water available in their homes.

The RDCO has completed the engineering assessment of the entire water system and work is underway to address the recommendations. The Do Not Consume Advisory continues to be in effect as boiling the water will not make the water safe to drink.

 The assessment recommendations include:

·  Additional chlorination dosing
·  Specific water quality analysis related to wildfire impacts
·  Inspection of system reservoirs and if necessary, based on those inspections, specialized cleaning and/or repairs.

Effective Oct. 28, the RDCO is providing a new free self-service, winterized water filling station for residents. It's located at the Shorts Creek firehall, Station 102 - 7355 Westside Road North. Please use this location as the previous filling station at the corner of Westside Road and Firwood Road will be removed.

Great news!! The North Westside Restructure funding has been APPROVED
A $60,000 Provincial government restructure planning grant will help facilitate a governance and services study for the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area, with an emphasis on North Westside communities.

RDCO Board Chair Gail Given says while this is not an incorporation study, it will build on the findings of the work done in 2017. “This funding will help clarify governance roles and responsibilities and to address the awareness, education and misinformation issues that surfaced during the work of the North Westside Services and Issues Review. We look forward to developing some realistic options to address the issues and concerns raised and to improve the flow of information and understanding between the RDCO and residents.”

Once the study terms of reference and committee membership have been confirmed, it’s anticipated an experienced consultant will be retained to work with the study committee over the next year in order to provide a final report by the fall of 2022.

Thanks so much to Callie Simpson for initiating this process of behalf of our community.
