Call for New Members: ECAO Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee | |
We are thrilled to announce ECAO Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee is looking for new members. The primary purpose of this Committee is to advise, educate, and provide resources to ECAO members. We want to encourage them to apply a diversity and inclusion lens to their policies, programs, and practices.
Our vision is to Seek Diversity, Create Inclusion and Drive Accountability.
Committee members must be an ECAO member or member representative who understands the impacts of racism and systemic discrimination on marginalized people and meet the following general qualifications:
- have demonstrated knowledge around diversity, equity, and inclusion
- be able to build meaningful relationships and connections within the industry

CBTU- IN The Trades
Investing in the Future of Unionized Skilled Trades

In The Trades provides financial and training incentives for unionized Canadian contractors who hire, onboard, train and retain skilled trades, first-year apprentices.
About the Program
Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) created the In The Trades apprenticeship program to support unionized contractors in Canada by providing financial incentives to hire and effectively onboard and retain first-year apprentices.
Contractors can receive $5,000 for new first-year apprentices and $10,000 for onboarding equity-deserving apprentices.

**Deadline Approaching** Apply for ECAO Safety Awards! | |
Apply for the ECAO R.H Carroll safety Awards if you haven't already!
To recognize the Safety and Health Week (May 1-6, 2023), we have moved the ECAO R.H Carroll Safety Awards to May instead of September. The event will be held in person and will start around 10 am to 12 noon EST. More details will be released soon!
The ECAO Hugh Carroll Safety Awards recognizes ECAO members who strive to put safety first in their day-to-day operations. The award was first launched in 2000 to recognize the significant contribution ECAO member, R. Hugh Carroll made in the field of health and safety in the electrical contracting industry.
Full detailed answers to application questions will ensure consideration of all the available information in the scoring process, giving your company the best chance of success in the evaluation process. The due date to submit the application is February 28, 2023.

It is that time of year again when we look to celebrate one of our own for their significant contributions to the ECAO and the electrical contracting industry.
Past recipients were recognized for their commitment to the work of giving back of their own time by volunteering on numerous industry committees and contributing to their respective local communities.
If you wish to honour one of your members, please take a look at the attached 2023 application or please let me know if I can help you in pulling together an application for someone you feel is eligible for this prestigious award.
ECAO will be honouring the 2023 recipient in-person at our ECAO Annual General Meeting in Toronto on June 02nd. The due date to submit the application is April 05, 2023.

Naloxone in the workplace | |
Find out if you are required to have a naloxone kit at your workplace, get a kit for free and training on how to use it.
Free naloxone training and kits
Starting December 2022, Ontario’s Workplace Naloxone Program is providing support to employers who are required to comply with the naloxone requirements in the Occupational Health and Safety Act by providing free naloxone training for up to two workers per workplace and/or one free nasal spray naloxone kit per workplace.

Your employees can simply contact the confidential QuikCare Mental Wellness Helpline at 1-833-355-ECAO (3226) for rapid assistance, and TeksMed will look to obtain the required information needed to arrange for an assessment to be conducted. The worker will then be connected with a therapist, who will guide them along the 12-week long cognitive behavioural therapy program.
