Dear Pastoral Assistants of Faith Formation and Catechists,
The Lenten season has started and several of us will be participating in some or all of the Rites for those in the process of Christian Initiation. We know that this process is elaborate and has many steps as progress is made.
During this season, several adults, youth and children of catechetical age will be participating on some or all of the rites of the Period of Purification and Enlightenment.
During this period the emphasis is "more intense on the spiritual preparation, consisting more in interior reflection than in catechetical instruction, and is intended to purify the minds and the hearts of the elect as they search their own consciences and do penance. This period is intended as well to enlighten the minds and hearts of the elect with a deeper knowledge of Christ the Savior." (RCIA 139)
This process applies to all of us as well, when we realize we have been called and we have responded to this call by being baptized. We also work in deepen our experience of the mysteries of God's love through the testimony of our lives.
Lent offer us the opportunity to take some time and reflect on our own personal process of conversion and our journey towards building the Kingdom of God in our local communities. Thus, we have experienced ongoing transformations through our life span, and I invite you to reflect during this season in identifying critical moments in your encounter with Jesus in your prayer moments, in your ministry, and in your personal and family life.
Let us go forward and continue be missionary disciples during this liturgical time.
Carlos Carrillo
Director of Faith Formation.
