Can you believe that the winter holidays will be here soon? This past year has been especially difficult for so many as we continue to navigate the pandemic and deal with increased costs for food, housing, and more. As we head toward the holidays, it can be especially challenging for families. At Waunakee Neighborhood Connection, we understand this and want to do what we can to help. One way that we can do so is through our Holiday Wishes (formerly Adopt-a-Family) and holiday meal programs.

Holiday Wishes

Through the Holiday Wishes program, a community donor can be matched with you and your family to provide holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for participation in this program, please submit a Wish List to Waunakee Neighborhood Connection by Friday, November 4th.

We cannot promise that every family that signs up will be matched with a donor, as we do not yet know how many donors we will have, but we will do our very best to match our client families that would like to participate. We will notify you by Friday, November 18th, to let you know whether your family has been matched with a donor.

Please know that, if matched, you might not receive all the items on your list. The list serves as suggestions for the donor. Donors are asked to spend $50-$100 per person, so please keep this in mind when creating your wish list by only including items within this price range.

We realize that this year has brought hardship for many and this may make your holiday needs and wishes a bit different than in the past. Please feel free to include on your wish list gift cards to stores where you can purchase essentials (e.g., grocery, Wal-Mart, gasoline). Having these may offset your monthly costs so that you have more money to put to other bills and expenses.

If you have needs that don't involve "stuff," please let Helyn know so that we can do what we can to support you and connect you with additional resources.

You have three options for completing your wish list form: 1) complete the form online in English or Spanish, 2) download and print the form using the links below, or 3) pick up a copy of the form at our office.

Holiday Meal

Neighborhood Connection, in partnership with Piggly Wiggly, will provide a $30 gift card so that you can purchase groceries for a holiday meal. We'll also send along some tips for how to put a great meal together for that amount. The gift card will be mailed to your home so that it arrives at least a week before Christmas.

We realize that some in our community are homebound or unable to grocery shop due to a health condition or disability. For these individuals and households, we will deliver groceries to make a meal for 4-6 people. As in the past, the meal will include a ham and ingredients for side dishes. The meals will be delivered on Saturday, December 17th between 10:00 AM and noon. Someone must be home to receive the meal.

The gift card or holiday meal is provided free of charge to anyone within the Waunakee school district or Village/Town of Dane who may have difficulty affording a holiday meal.
