Highlights from the recent report include:

  • From March 2021 to March 2022, the unemployment rate in Tulare County decreased by 4.4 percent, and jobs increased by 5.8 percent
  • The 8.4 percent unemployment rate represents the lowest March unemployment rate for Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available
  • From March 2021 to March 2022, employment increased by 13,800, and the labor force increased by 5,500
  • In March 2022, Tulare County saw the highest employment numbers for Food Services & Drinking Places since 1990, as far back as data is available

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 4.4 percent decrease in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 12.8 percent in March 2021 to 8.4 percent in March 2022. 

Over the last ten years, the average month-over-month unemployment rate from February to March increased by 0.7 percent. This year, however, the month-over-month unemployment rate decreased by 0.9 percent.
The graph below shows the trends in March employment and unemployment over the last 10 years. In March of 2022, there were 186,500 people employed, more than any other year during the month of March in Tulare County since 1990, as far back as data is available.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON
From March 2021 to March 2022, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities and Food Services & Drinking Places shared the greatest year-over numerical gains with an increase of 2,000 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 50.0 percent. Professional & Business Services showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 300 jobs, while State Government showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 6.3 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From February to March 2022, four industries shared the greatest month-over numerical gains with an increase of 100 jobs each; Food Services & Drinking Places, Accommodation, Nondurable Goods (Manufacturing), and Retail Trade. Accommodation showed the greatest month-over percent increase for the second month in a row, with job growth of 12.5 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical and percent decline with a loss of 2,800 jobs and a loss of 8.2 percent of jobs.
