Student Newsletter Will Be Changing From Weekly Schedule

The student newsletter will be switching to a bi-weekly schedule. The next issue will be sent out on December 5. Stay up to date on events by checking out the student calendar and lobby screens.

Holiday Ornament Sale

The Columbus class of 2026 is selling custom MUSM ornaments for $10. They will be available for pickup on the Columbus campus in mid-December, or you can have them shipped to you for an additional $3. All orders are due by Sunday, November 27, at 11:59 pm.

Eat, Sleep, Move: Lunch and Learn

Last week, Student Wellness hosted a virtual wellness lunch and learn, with guest speaker Michael Caputo, LMFT. Caputo, an alum of the School of Medicine's MFT program and current mental health provider with Mercer Medicine, discussed "how to reconnect with people, purpose, and our peace" after Covid. Trainees for Child Injury Prevention

Students with an interest in pediatrics and learning about child injury prevention, health behavior change, communication, and advocacy are invited to apply to the Trainees for Child Injury Prevention (T4CIP). Trainees must commit to the program for a full calendar year, plan and participate in two days of action at their institution, and help plan related events across the country.

B.E.A.R. Distinction in Research

The Office of Student Research would like to announce the newly established Bears Excelling in the Area of Research (B.E.A.R.) Distinction. Students who earn this distinction will receive formal recognition on their transcript and diploma. More information is available in the Student Research canvas course.

2nd Annual Student Research Symposium

January 27 | 1 - 4 PM | All Campuses

The Student Organization for the Advancement of Research and Service invites all MUSM students to practice their research skills by participating in the 2nd Annual Student Research Symposium. Submissions will be accepted in 1 of 3 categories:

  • Literature Review
  • Case Report/Series
  • Original Research. 


The deadline to submit abstracts is November 30 at 11:59 PM.

Clinical Research Summer Externship for URiM Students

The Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students is a program initiative of the Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program to increase diversity in clinical trials and transform the clinical research landscape.

 

Winn CIPP is a 6-week intensive and immersive summer service-learning externship that provides underrepresented in medicine (URiM) medical students with the opportunity to experience and participate in clinical research in a community-based clinical research setting. Accepted students will be trained in clinical research, community engagement, and leadership development. Students will also receive a $7,500 stipend for their participation during the externship.

 

Early decision applications close on January 8, 2023. Regular decision applications are due by February 12, 2023. Contact Ali Gemma, MPH, with any questions.

Fall Town Hall Meetings

The School of Medicine invites all MD students to this year's fall town hall meeting. These meetings are held each semester and are designed to help improve communication between students and the administration. Class leaders will submit questions in advance, and you will also have the opportunity to ask questions during the meeting.
