FAREWELL CELEBRATION FOR REV. FLORENCE
Due to the low temperatures, we are moving our Easter service out of the park and into our sanctuary. Our egg-hunt and celebration of Rev. Florence’s ministry will be immediately after the service (11:30) on UUCUC's lawn, complete with a vegan dessert buffet, goodbye ritual, and a chance to make your own contribution to Florence’s thank you gift. Rev. Florence will not be able to join us indoors for the service, but will be with us on the lawn afterward for her formal Release from Call, and to enjoy desserts and conversation with us all.

JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, April 10, 2022.

From Anonymous: Gratitude for Rev. Sally Fritsche -- who brings joy to this congregation

From Jessica Augustson: My Aunt Sheryl is now in comfort care. She is my mom's eldest sibling and I will miss her.

From Jerry Carden & Tim Temple: Sorrow for the fact that Laura Wetzel is no longer here to experience this blossoming of spring. Joy for the celebration of her life yesterday, to meet her family, and remember her many talents - many of which she used to help preserve this building, to tend the landscapes and especially her sense of humor. The flowers are from her memorial.

From Jenny Hunt: Sorrow that we have not see my brother in over 2.5 years. Joy that the plan is for him to arrive Thursday from Arizona. It will be good to see him.

From Jenny Lokshin: My friend died by suicide this month, leaving family and friends who had no idea how much he was hurting. Please keep his daughters in your hearts, and know that you are loved and valued. Please call 800-273-8255 if you are in crisis.

From Pat McClard: Great sorrow over the dissolution of my marriage of 24 years. Joy for moving into a new house this week and adopting a dog, Charlie.

From Mick Henry McEnroe: Today's service about mourning feels so fitting, as my family has been feeling sorrow at the recent passing of Jim Worley: long-time friend of my parents, and a favorite of mine from those who came to the dungeon runs my dad hosted during my childhood. Jim gave me the book Fox in Socks, which became my favorite, especially when his younger brother Fred read it with me. Jim's memorial service yesterday was a lovingly personalized celebration of his life. There were many quotes from the Lord of the Rings, and a 20-sided die was rolled to determine who would read each of the readings. It was wonderful to see so many people... only few I see often, or not so often, and most I hadn't seen in decades, or was meeting for the first time... all were there with the common thread of having had the wonderful opportunity to have their lives touched in some way by such a wonderful person. As those positively impacted by Jim are missing his physical presence, I know he will continue to live on through them.

From Linda Owens: To be back in the sanctuary again.

From Amy Robison: Great Joy to welcome my first grandson Sean into this world - he arrived a little early, but six pounds and a full head of hair.

From Avalon Ruby: Grateful for being part of this congregation in so many ways and being allowed to explore spirituality and new feelings with so many wonderful people.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.

SOCIAL ACTION OFFERING FOR APRIL 2022
RACES is the only agency dedicated to serving the needs of survivors of sexual violence in Champaign, Ford, Piatt and Douglas Counties. RACES provides counseling, court advocacy, medical advocacy, and runs a 24 hour Rape Crisis Hotline. Pre-pandemic, the agency provided counseling and advocacy services to more than 225 survivors of sexual assault each year, including supporting more than 75 people annually during the hospital medical exam and evidence collection process. RACES’ services are attuned to the needs of survivors from historically marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals.

Sexual Assault Prevention Education is an important part of the agency’s vision to end sexual violence in our lifetime: pre-pandemic, the educators reached over 4,000 children, youth and adults each year through age-appropriate prevention programs. The agency is working to match these numbers as more in-person interactions become safe. READ MORE
During the month of February, our shared offering was able to raise $2015 that was donated to The CU Schools Foundation.

The CU Schools Foundation is the only organization dedicated to supporting creativity, innovation and excellence in Champaign-Urbana public schools. They do so by providing grants to teachers as well as scholarships to students. Schools’ role in the lives of students and families was made apparent during the pandemic of the past 22 months. As the impact of the pandemic improves, the challenges facing teachers, students and their families will continue. The financial support provided by CUSF allows teachers to do what they are uniquely skilled at: responding to student and family needs in individual, direct and innovative ways.
