October 29, 2021 Edition
Dear St. Joe’s Parents,

I’m sure that as parents you realize that not all children love to come to school each day… your child included! So if math isn’t her thing, or ELA doesn’t excite him…what else is there that can “hook them” and get them to school each day, actually looking forward to the experience?

Many students struggle with academics. They find class work challenging and frustrating. This is often a temporary phase, one that will change as a student grows and finds success in the classroom. In the meantime, there are other options that may help to fill that void. Here at St. Joe’s students have a number of opportunities to get involved and be part of the school and the community. If your child is an athlete or wants to be part of an athletic team…how about field hockey (undefeated this year by the way!) or cross country, ski club, or basketball. These are “no cut” experiences…” Want to play, you can stay !” Sports are not your child’s “thing!” What about being a part of a musical or drama performance, speech and debate, choir. There is much here at St. Joe’s to draw young people in. Whether your child is “into school” or not, have them get involved in an activity beyond the classroom. It’s a great opportunity to experience more of what St. Joe’s has to offer.
Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Barnes
Interim Head of School

Parent Volunteers
Just a friendly reminder that all adults that are looking to volunteer at school need to fill out a CORI form EACH year. If you have not done so already this school year, please visit either the main office or the ECB office to complete the CORI. It only take two minutes, and remember to bring your license.

Cell Phone Use
There have been numerous instances recently of students using cell phones at school. The following was communicated to students at the Middle School on Tuesday morning. This is also the policy as found in the Student Handbook. Parent involvement in this issue is appreciated.

“The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during, before, and after school hours in the school building unless the student has permission of a teacher or a staff member. The student must stay with the teacher or staff member while they make the call or text. Students are required to keep their cell phones in their locker, shut off for the entire school day….If the student is observed using the cell phone in the building, without permission, the cell phone will be confiscated and the parent will have to pick it up in the principal’s office.”

March for Life
Dear St. Joseph’s,

For the first time in our parochial school history, we have been given the wonderful opportunity to join thousands of other pilgrims to March for Life in Washington D.C. from January 20-22, 2022. Due to the tremendous generosity of benefactors the cost for each pilgrim and chaperone will be covered. Students in Grades 6-12 are invited. In union with the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools Office the Witness to Life is a powerful example of our faith put into action: being a voice for the weakest and poorest member of society, the unborn. An innocent person’s right to life is absolute and sacred since it comes directly from God the Creator. Please prayerfully consider joining St. Joseph’s in our witness to life. Saving one soul or one baby’s life is of infinite value and worth any sacrifice. More details about the pilgrimage can be found below. Questions about the pilgrimage can be directed to Fr. Joseph. Final confirmations to attend the pilgrimage are due to Fr. Joseph by November 7th.

In gratitude,

Fr. Joseph
