COVID Updates and Important Information
The challenges of COVID continue and Susan Lindgren Elementary School - like most elementary schools in Minnesota and nationwide - is feeling the impact as we all work together daily to do our best to ensure the health and safety of students, teachers, staff and the entire community. I want to share some specific information for families regarding COVID and Susan Lindgren Elementary School.

Recently, we have had an uptick in the number of students with positive COVID cases. The Site COVID Team and the entire school team are doing everything we can to keep our students and ourselves as safe and healthy as possible.

At Home Learning During Quarantine Plan - Clarifications for Families
When a student needs to quarantine, our entire school team is there to coordinate at home learning.

When a student has to quarantine for 3-5 days, either a classroom teacher, specialist teacher or Elementary Support Supervisor Arsenio Richardson will schedule a single Connect time - by phone or virtual meeting in Google or Zoom - with the student (not once per day). Specialist teachers and school leaders will be connecting directly with your classroom teacher to share anything you may need. We are a team committed to the success of all students!

If the student has a longer quarantine period (for example 6-14+ days), either a classroom teacher, specialist teacher or Elementary Support Supervisor Arsenio Richardson will schedule Connect meetings with the student 2-3 times (not 2-3 times a day).

Let us know if students need a school chromebook for use during quarantine and we will provide that for you.

For a detailed description of the school district’s At Home Learning Plan, SEE BELOW.

Please be sure to read the October 27, 2021 edition of the school district newsletter for families, the SLP Communicator for the latest information about COVID mitigation strategies and vaccinations. This week’s edition included information on:
  • Close contacts on the school bus
  • Upcoming vaccine clinics in SLP for ages 12+, boosters shots, and ages 5+
  • Testing out of quarantine requires PCR test

If you have any specific questions, please reach out to me directly at 952-928-6699 or pollock.clarence@slpschools.org

Thank you for your partnership as we continue to navigate through times none of us have experienced before. We so appreciate your support and partnership!

NEW Quarantine Guidance for Bus Riders
The district will begin contact tracing and quarantining bus riders who were in close contact with positive COVID cases, even if the students were wearing masks. This aligns with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recommendation.

If a student who is identified as positive for COVID rode the bus, the school district will begin contact tracing as follows:
  • Review the school bus routing system to determine if students were on the route for 15 minutes or more. Bus riders who came in contact with positive COVID students for LESS THAN 15 minutes do not need to quarantine.

  • The school district will review the bus seating charts for riders who were in contact with the COVID positive students for 15 minutes or more.

  • Students who were seated two rows in front, two rows behind and the row next to the COVID positive student - this applies to all students, even if masked - will be asked to quarantine.

  • Schools will call families to inform them of the close contact to a COVID positive student and provide information about quarantine.

PTO News
Thank a Teacher!

During upcoming family-teacher conferences in November, the PTO Staff/Teacher Appreciation committee is organizing a meal for teachers and staff, who work long days on those conference days. They also are collecting positive messages from parents/guardians to share with staff and teachers.

Leave a kind note of thanks through the online form (below) to recognize the amazing team of people that support the students at Susan Lindgren. This includes not only grade-level teachers, but office staff, custodians, specials teachers, special education teachers, paras, and more. It truly takes a village to educate our children, and this is a great chance to show your appreciation to them!
