The featured speaker for this event is industry expert and consultant Jeff Bump, of Grow Hemp New York, LLC, headquartered in Windsor, who will talk about the recent evolution in hemp
legalization and markets. Bump will also discuss regulatory requirement, best growing practices and provide information about affiliate grower status and consulting protocols.

Bump is a licensed grower/producer and is licensed to open a processing facility in New York in 2019.

Find Them at the Job and Resource Fairs on April 10 & 11

Join us for our Job and Resource Fair on Wednesday, April 10  from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm at  ONC BOCES in Grand Gorge and on Thursday, April 11 at DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus in Masonville  Employers will be connected to a viable workforce consisting of recent high school and college graduates as well as adults who are eager to obtain employment. 

Present information about your company and job openings.

Be prepared to interview applicants, accept resumes, and offer advice about how to prepare for employment with your company.

Event promotion will be targeted to recent college and high school graduates, as well as job-seeking adults.

There is no fee to participate, but registration is required.

The schedule for the events:

11:00 am - Lunch
11:30 am  - Tours of BOCES classes and labs
12:00 noon -  Meet with students from BOCES and area high schools
 2:00 pm - Meet with adult job seekers

A table with two chairs will be provided. Please note that we are not able to provide electric service.

The Job and Resource Fair is sponsored Delaware County Department of Economic Development, the Delaware County Industrial Development Agency, and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Seeks Comments on State Ag Labor Wage Proposal

Chamber President Ray Pucci, representing member businesses, is scheduled to offer public testimony on the proposed Farm Workers Fair Labor Practices legislation on May 2 at 1 p.m. at SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake.

Some of the main provisions of the Farm Workers Fair Labor Practices Act include: 

  • Providing collective bargaining rights for farm workers
  • Mandating overtime pay to farm workers after eight hours of work per day and 40 hours per week
  • Providing unemployment insurance and workers' compensation for farm laborers
  • Including farm workers under disability laws
  • Continuing to include farm workers under New York minimum wage laws
  • New housing regulations
The proposed legislation, if passed, would have significant impacts on farm owners and farm workers in Delaware County.

US Census Bureau Recruitment, April 24 in Delhi

The Chamber, CDO Workforce Development and NYS Department of Labor are sponsoring a recruitment effort to hire Census workers on April 24, from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., at the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, 5 1/2 Main Street, Delhi.

US Census staff will be on hand to answer questions regarding application and provide assistance. Current job openings include:

* Office Operation Supervisor
* Office Clerk
* Census Taker
* Recruiting Assistant

State Tax Cap Permanent, Prevailing Wage Expansion Rejected

New York's state budget was finalized on April 1 and the Chamber's lobbying efforts,  along with other small business advocates, in Albany on March 19, have paid off. The 2 percent property tax tax cap was made permanent and the proposal to expand prevailing wage law to private projects which receive state funding, was rejected.

The Chamber seeks to strengthen the local economy, increase local business and to represent the interest of our members to government officials. 

The Chamber is committed to being the voice of business at the local, state and federal levels.

DEC Details Trout Management First-Year Study Results in Hancock, April 9

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will make a public presentation  April 9 from 6 -7 p.m. at Hancock Central School, 67 Education Lane, Hancock,  on the ongoing 3-Year Joint Fisheries
Investigation Plan for the Upper Delaware River Tailwaters, which includes waterways in Hancock. 

Learn more about the Upper Delaware River wild trout fishery and this new study that will play a critical role in the future management of the fishery, tourism and the economy.
