Whether or not you currently use the New Rochelle Public Libraries, we want to hear from you. Join fellow New Rochelle residents to envision the future of the library by telling us what you think about the Library's programs, services and facilities. You will also have a chance to share what YOU would like to see take place at the Library going forward. Make your voice heard two ways!

It's Hispanic Heritage Month!
|
September 15 marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month which runs through October 15. This celebration started as a week in 1968 under President Johnson and was expanded to a month in 1988 under President Reagan. Teens - pick up a free book with DVD in the Teen Room; 100 Ciudades del Mundo; in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! Click here to take it a step further and see the world in the eyes of Hispanic and Latinx teens in this collection of young adult fiction books.

Live Music Returns to the Library!

Jazz musician Chip Shelton and his Flute Party Band will present a lively performance featuring Shelton's multi-generational, pan-ethnic ensemble on Sunday, September 26 at 3:00 pm in Ruby Dee Park. Hear familiar songs from the American Songbook, and get ready to move to the Band's danceable originals. Hosted by jazz radio on-air personality Keanna Faircloth. Bring a chair, relax and enjoy. Advance registration requested.
Masks recommended outside and required inside the Library. Rain location, Ossie Davis Theater.

Sing Your Heart Out! Workshops for Adult Singers
|
Music aficionado Robert Puleo continues to lead the "Sing Your Heart Out" Workshops that help participants gain confidence in singing in a fun and inclusive environment. FREE. Rehearsals begin Saturday, September 18, 10 am - 12 pm and culminates in a Thanksgiving performance on Saturday, November 20, 3:00 pm in the Ossie Davis Theater. Rehearsal schedule TBD.

Children's Program: Meet the Author Nick Bruel!

Join us for a virtual visit with Nick Bruel, author and illustrator of the popular Bad Kitty series! Mr. Bruel will read from one of his books, do a few drawing demonstrations and answer any questions you have for him!
Patrons can attend in person in the Main Library’s auditorium or join remotely. In person attendees must have a ticket which can be picked up in the Children’s Room the day of the program. First come, first served. To join remotely, please email nrplkids@wlsmail.org for the event’s Zoom link.

Holocaust Awareness Program for Teens

Tuesday, September 21 at 7 pm
|
In this virtual presentation, teens will learn about the Jews of Hungary, the rise of Hitler and the propaganda that helped lead to the Holocaust. The presenter Shelley is the only child of two Holocaust survivors who came from Northern Transylvania, in present-day Romania. Shelley will tell the story of her mother, Lilly, who survived two concentration camps thanks to the love and support of her older sister, Sarah, who was with her throughout the war. Shelley is a member of GenerationsForward, a group of second and third generation individuals sponsored by the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center of White Plains, New York.
