ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Focusing on Baltimore's Brightest Artists
Drawing From Experience & Identity
In joyous celebration of the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month on September 15, we're shining a spotlight on Sondheim finalist Hoesy Corona. Hoesy's work uses a variety of media to develop otherworldly narratives about what it means to be a queer Mexican immigrant living and working in the United States. These identities — queer, Latinx, immigrant — are central to Hoesy's practice. His bold, vibrant pieces are grouped in several ongoing series, and Hoesy continually produces new iterations to add to each collection. Hoesy's Sondheim exhibition at the Walters, "Sunset Moonlight," was the first time all five of his series have been exhibited together, which is exciting new terrain for this emerging uncategorized artist. Hoesy is currently a resident artist at the Creative Alliance. You can see more of his work below.
