Good Friday, April 18
Opening Prayer: Passover Lamb, even in death, you are the fulfillment of the prophecy, and the promise of coming redemption. Console us in our grief and do not let our eyes waver from you, in your most precious name. Amen.
Consider: Consider this theme for the week’s text.
On the day of his crucifixion, Jesus was utterly alone in body, mind, and spirit. His isolation is something universal to humanity, and the experience can connect us so that we are not truly alone.
Read: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding of the weekend’s texts.
Good Friday, Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Hebrews 10:16-25 or Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9; John 18:1-19:42
Easter Vigil, Job 14:1-14 or Lamentations 3:1-9, 19-24; 1 Peter 4:1-8; Matthew 27:57-66 or John 19:38-42
Reflect and Connect: Reflect on the following questions; connect in conversation with others.
- What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?
- What sins weigh heavy on your heart? Can you own them, and then give them to Jesus for forgiveness?
- For the littles: What makes you sad about Good Friday church? It’s ok to feel sad. Remember there’s a happy ending to this sad story!
Do: By acting on what we learn, we make God’s word come alive. Do the following activity this week.
Reflect on the heaviness of tonight’s worship.
